Subway Rider Sliced in Power Saw Attack
Jul 06 1:10 PM US/Eastern
NEW YORK

A man grabbed two cordless power saws off a subway station workbench and went on a rampage Thursday, swinging the saws at riders and slicing open a man's chest before running away, police said.

The 64-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Police were searching for the suspect, described by witnesses as a thin man in his 30s, who had earrings in both ears and was possibly carrying a teddy bear.

The attack occurred before dawn at a subway station a few blocks south of Columbia University.

Wielding a saw in each hand, the man took a swipe at one rider on a platform and missed, police said. Moments later, he cut into the man's chest at a turnstile before bolting out of the station, still carrying the power tools, which were later found in a trash can.

Police were reviewing security camera videotape.

The attack came two weeks after a Boston man was charged with stabbing four people _ three of them tourists _ over a 13-hour period in the subway and the theater district in Manhattan.

Most random attack ever. Carrying a teddy bear, wtf?!

Ok where's that poster Teddy at the time? ;)

So, you are worker doing some construction on a NYC subway and it is lunch time. Do you...A) Put away your cordless power saws or B) Figure that leaving a few of these cordless saws with the batteries still in them right in the middle of a subway station would be fine as what harm can come from leaving power tools out in the open in a NYC subway platform. You make the call.

What is next? A cop leaving his gun holstered in his belt on a table at a crowded Deli while he goes to the john?

Does he think he's in a horror movie or something
That would be a cool defense.
"Your honor, my client pleads not-guilty on the grounds that he thought he was in a horror movie. "

Heh.

"Yer honor, I could've sworn I heard the director yell ACTION! So I picked up the saw... then he yelled CUT! So thats what I did."

Damn half-baked two-bit lame brains ruinin' my life...

I bet he was making that cool "Killkillkill...Cha-cha-cha-chaaaa!" whispering noise that Jason makes in the movies while he was doing all of this.

jag

he was also walking at a slow, steady pace and yet was able to catch his victims despite their running.

You had to tell me that! I'm going to New York City on Saturday! If I don't get on after Saturday, you guys know what happened :(

Wait...both Equint and boyscouT haven't posted in awhile. It could have been one of them!

Haha...I can see that happening already...based on a true story...the subway chainsaw massacre

Well ermm...that is pretty weird but why did he take the teddy hostage :(

I am always so disenchanted with the vile brutality and senseless violence brought forth by psychotic individuals. It's so droll and improper.

Why kill anyone in the first place. You'll just end up in prison and dead, and that really serves no viable purpose other than to incarcerate one's self.

It's far better to think of what you might do, and mentally visualize it, then pacify yourself with the idea you could have done it if you wanted, but chose not to do so because you have more class and dignity.
