Hey, all...

I've been most fortunate over the last 3 years, to have met the talented and kind Mr. O'Barr, numerous times at local conventions here in Texas. Today, I stopped by the 9th annual Dallas Comic Con, and requested a custom sketch. Two hours later, this is what he came up with. I love it, and I hope you guys enjoy it as well. Check out this low-res preview...

you know what i've always wanted to do? go to a comic con, go to a guy like O'Barr who's mostly famous for one character that he himself created, and then ask him to do a sketch of something totally f**king different that he's never done anything like...you know, go up to O'Barr and ask him to do a sketch of Luke Cage in his old Power Man gear or something :o

Well, in an interview on the 2-disc "Crow" DVD, James said, "As hard as I try, I can't seem to squeeze out a Spider-Man story or X-Man story." His work was always intended to be personal. He does this sort of thing for an actual living. "The Crow" was born out of a personal tragedy for him, and I'd guess that he sees it even now as something that's inherently different from most comic books. His stuff is usually much darker and rougher in style that something that Marvel, DC, or Dark Horse might do.

First off I love the Crow comics and love the Crow movies(well, the first 2). I've asked in other threads but maybe here could get some answers. Any word on another crow movie? Ive searched around to see who has rights to the movie and unless I'm mistaken Disney has the rights?? I've tried emailing them to see whats up with it. I don't forsee Disney doing anything with it,and not sure why they are holding onto it??
I hope to hear something this week if not will try again..
*would love to see a female crow(using the Iris story line, via Kill Bill type scenerio).

Well, one thing I do know is that James O'Barr has nothing to do with the film series, unless they ask him to become involved. He's said to me regarding the filmmakers, "They barely listened to me during the first one, and didn't bother with the second. With the third I did some artwork, but that was it." He also advised me NOT to see the fourth; we agreed it was a depiction of territory the series was never meant to explore (the same goes for "City of Angels").

As for another film, James has stated that he'd like to see a female Crow as well, but he also doubts the story would be anything he'd approve of. Here's my own personal opinion:

The Crow - The best of the series by far, and that includes the story and characters, not just the Brandon Lee tragedy.

The Crow: City of Angels - Absolutely terrible. The entire film was just chock-full of incredibly-sucky material. The only thing I actually liked was Mia Kirshner, although i don't think Sarah should have been carried over from the first film...big mistake. The rest of the film...no.

The Crow: Salvation - Definitely better than "City of Angels", with an appropriately smaller story and much better characterizations. Eric Mabius shines as the lead role, with Kirsten Dunst and Fred Ward not far behind. Jodi-Lyn O'Feefe's murder flashbacks were so real, they made me cringe and close my eyes sometimes. There were some scenes I did not agree with (especially the overkill of nudity with the Key Club interior shots), but overall a much better effort.

The Crow: Wicked Prayer - Never seen it, and I have no intention to, but I've read enough about it to get a lot of the facts. I'm a mild fan of actors like Danny Trejo, Dennis Hopper, and even Edward Furlong, but this film shouldn't have been done at all. It has no business as part of the Crow series.

Oh god, you have to see it. It's worth it just for David Boreanaz total not giving a s**t, knowing it sucks, and over-acting as much as he possibly can. He's obviously just in it for the paycheck, and not ashamed to act like it. Another hillarious thing, is for the cover, they used a picture of him from Buffy Season 2, so he looks 10 years youngeron it than he does in the movie...lol..."Hurry up and make me the f**king antichrist!"

And Dennis Hopper! Holy s**t! He plays a satanic, pimp/preacher who talks all in jive. The whole movie is so bad it's hillarious.

How much was it?

Me to. I just went to ww philly and was gonna do it, but forgot to buy a sketch book. I was gonna ask David Mack to draw Optimus Prime.

Ya,it was a total fubar movie. No budget, crappy acting, crappy storyline etc.. C'mon they had a satanic ritual in a diner(or small store?) in the middle of the day,it was pure artistic work....
Anywho, I would love to meet O'barr guy has some skillz...O,well was hopin a crow movie in the future....

Forgot to ask. I don't have a comic book shop around here. Is he planning on doing anymore crow comics? I think I have all of them(though not sure if hes done any since the ones i bought).

Yeah, the Crow: City of Angels is to this day the only movie I've ever walked out of. I was a huge fan of the graphic novel back in day when they re-packged the story in those three volumes. I was slightly disappointed in the first movie. no disrespect to brandon lee of couse. but it was in no way the intense story i read in the graphic novel. I even thought Brandon Lee was a little mis placed as the crow. and did'nt have thew voice for the character. In the comic eric was shooting morphine and cutting him self and he was just this bad ass death dealein' mother ****er. since o'barr doen'yt apparently have the rights well never esee a tarintino version or IFC type flick. SIGHHHH.

actually Brandon Lee did fine with what he was given- an ok script at best. Which was a teen friendly version of a very adult themed work.
