Transformers Cullen/Welker or Chalk/Kaye?

Obviously, we know that Peter Cullen and Frank Welker are the original Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively, and in the upcoming movie. We also know that Gary Chalk and David Kaye are the Optimus Prime (Primal) and Megatron from Beast Wars and onward. Despite the G1 and G2 (I consider Beast Wars in G1), which do you like the best. The older posters will mostly like Cullen/Welker, while the younger posters may like/have been used to Chalk/Kaye.

So, was Cullen/Welker the best bet, or would anyone have preferred Chalk/Kaye?

Bias aside, I prefer Cullen/Welker since they were the originals, despite growing up and being used to Chalk/Kaye.

i think i may prefer Kaye's Megatron. but nobody will ever do a better Prime than Peter Cullen, and the interplay he had with Welker was better and had more sense of history and chemistry than there was between Megs and Primal in Beast Wars.

Gary Chalk played Optimus Prime a lot longer than Peter Cullen did and IMHO he did a damn good job of it.

Did anyone hear Cullen as Optimus on Robot Chicken? He honestly didn't sound quite as good as he did originally.

My opinions are not based on who came first, etc etc...

I think honestly that Chalk and Cullen are pretty damn close...and they play it differently...Cullen sounds more wise...Chalk sounds more like he is in the midst of battle...both which work for me...

On the megs side...Welker all the way...I really don't care for Kaye's megatron at ALL...

Just saying, he doesn't sound like he did back in the day.

Chalk played the character a lot longer than Cullen did and I think he proved himself to nail the role quite well.

I think purists just have this blind faith toward the original series that they can't even think that maybe Cullen isn't the best choice for Optimus. Sure he was the original, but the character has been played by many other VA's.
