Did an advanced search but couldn't find a thread on this film.

Synopsis: Martin, a skilled and ruthless mercenary, travels into the Tasmanian wilderness on a hunt for a tiger believed to be extinct. Hired by an anonymous company that wants the tiger's genetic material, Martin arrives in Tasmania posing as a scientist. He proceeds to set up base camp at a broken-down farmhouse, where he stays with a family whose father has gone missing. Usually a loner, Martin becomes increasingly close to the family; however, as his attachment to the family grows, Martin is led down a path of unforeseen dangers, complicating his deadly mission.

Looks pretty good. The director has only done TV shows in the past, but with Dafoe and Sam Neill in this, I'm going to check this one out.

I saw this trailer. Dafoe with a beard hunting a dangerous animal.

Sold.

I saw a preview screening. Dafoe hunting alone in the Tasmanian wilderness is all gold.

However, there's a second half of the plot where in between wilderness treks Dafoe is staying with a widow and her two cute children who show him what he's missing in his life while he basically fixes up their place. It doesn't ruin the film in any way, but it certainly is much weaker.

There's also an element of paranoid thriller about it. There's conflict between loggers and environmentalists with Dafoe caught in the middle. There's also a shadowy corporation that is trying to exploit an element of the wilderness, why Dafoe is out there, that is ruthless in its methods and that both sets of locals are unaware of. Toss in Neil with his own agenda, and there's a real sense of danger.

So, overall, I'd recommend it.
