Jedi Academy please, to set up the future. We can finally have many Jedi existing at the same time again, scattered across the universe.

After TLJ I'm very hesitant to say where the story will or should go, but this trilogy leading to the resurrection of the Jedi order has always made sense, from the beginning. I mean, the first movie is called "The Force Awakens". That title was applying to Rey and Kylo, but it's not a stretch to say it has galaxy-wide implications. TLJ went much further to imply that with the kid at the end.

Yes it all makes sense. I can’t think of a better way to leave it at the end, for the future at least.

I hope she gets a new look for IX when she's (I assume) a Jedi Master.

She won't be a Jedi Master in IX. She hasn't really even attained the official title of Jedi at this point. Remember, Luke wasn't officially a Jedi until the very end of the OT. He had the power, the saber, and the wardrobe, but he hadn't faced that final test yet.

I think Rey will likely be quite powerful in 9 , though whether that means she'll be a Jedi Master is another question. Its up to JJ at this point, but I'm not sure becoming a Jedi Master is something Rey actually wants to do. I guess the question for me is more of what her own personal path and goal is in 9.

Is it to lead the rebellion and take down the first order? Re-establish the Jedi order? Find other force users? Understand herself and her abilities more? Etc.

What does it matter? All the Jedi are dead. The only person who can really claim her as a Jedi Master is her. Luke, Yoda, and Obi-Wan can't because the whole point was that we were starting over. Rey is going to take the texts and do things differently. All Luke/Yoda/Obiwan can do is train her in the old dogma of the past. If she is a light side force user and she has pupils, then we can consider her a master. And after TLJ, that's the most obvious direction they'll go. If she isn't training anyone in IX, then I can't really appreciate the ending of TLJ. Yes - there used to be a certain and specific way that one could be deemed a "Jedi." But I don't think that's the case anymore. Rey is the first in a class of New Jedi. It's possible they won't even adhere to light/dark ideology... much less anything else. Everything is on the table.

I am really hoping that they bring back Qui-Gun though, and it'd be cool if he declares her a master through the "Living Force."

I actually wouldn't be surprised if she isn't a Jedi Master in any sense at the beginning nor the end of 9. At the same time, I wouldn't assume the end of TLJ gives as an indication of where her character will be at the beginning of 9 which will take place a few years later.

While I agree " Everything is on the table" , or put another way, " There are a lot of possibilities", I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't go the route that fans expect , i.e. that her goal is to restart the Jedi order somehow, or to teach the force in a new way to younglings and other force users. That's why I question what she wants to do and whether her goal is to become some kind of Jedi Master or whether she feels she wants a different type of life for herself which isn't about carrying on the legacy of the Jedi.

Given that TFA ,and TLJ in particular, have gone in directions that the fans didn't see coming ,i.e. didn't adhere to fan theories and assumptions, I wouldn't be surprised if the same is true for Episode 9 with regards Rey and to several of the new characters

Oops messed up in replying to Mace B's post , but here it is :

:funny: Qui-Gonn, in a third movie of a sequel trilogy, the majority of Star Wars viewers having not heard of him since 1999?

Never gonna happen.

It's a long shot, but I think it'd go a long to way addressing the primary struggle: they need to tie all these movies together. Qui-Gon does that perfectly. Not only would he be able to bookend the chaptered movies by being in both the first and the last, but he could reconcile these differing views of the Force, since he never really 100% agreed with the Jedi Council in the first place. He could explain the mystery of becoming a Force Ghost to Rey, like Yoda alluded to in ROTS. He could explain to her how the Jedi moved away from the "Living Force" which is described in the Jedi texts.

Add to that, Qui-Gon is seriously one of the best characters in the whole prequel series. Liam is a great actor, and could bring some much needed gravitas to the film. I think it can be assumed at this point that a lot of the audience has seen the prequels, so I don't think it'd be a hard thing to do narratively. And a throw away line from Obi-Wan about finally seeing his old master again would easily explain it...

Out of all the characters, I think Qui-Gon could help Rey the most.

Mace B, while I doubt Qui Gon will appear , your ideas are interesting.

I hope they make sure she actually has a lead story this time, and doesn’t get subsumed by Skywalker man-pain. I mean, I’ve got some reason to have faith in Abrams overall, especially compared to Rian Johnson, but right now, they need to make sure Rey has a meaty enough story that this is undoubtedly a trilogy focused on her, and not some story about Diet Darth Vader and his Wobbling Lip of Angst.

And since TLJ didn’t bother to give her anything to do other than facilitate Luke and Kylo’s plot, and dint even bother to actually build anything onto that Rey Random idea, Abrams has his work cut out for him.
