From a writer's standpoint, you should always try to simplify things. Don't try to create unnecessary layers and redundancies. No need for two when one will do.

While Rashida Jones is (was) the front runner for Janet, I have someone else in mind for Janet if they want to change her race:

- Rosario Dawson. Right now (whether by her own choice or not) her career is stuck in neutral. Her highest grossing film is Men in Black II. She's neither a big star nor critically acclaimed but she's a known name in Hollywood and a being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe can only help her get out of the career rut she's currently stuck in.

Or… how about switch it up a little bit. Get Pam Grier to play a 60-70's Wasp and Hank's first wife, then she passes down the mantle to Rashida Jones who plays her daughter, Jan. Nobody does badass female from the 70's like Pam Grier.

I hate that I'm so thoroughly stuck on Rashida as Jan but LOVE HER GAH!!! I want her to be a thing that happens in this movie.

I came close to name-dropping Pam Grier myself... except a search showed that she had let herself go a bit recently. Angela Basset, maybe?

1. She and Hank would still have a connection.
2. It could give Hank incentive to give her powers.
3. It could parallel Scott and Cassie's relationship nicely.
4. It could allow for a younger Janet who could be an actual superhero.

I don't see any reason a Janet as Hank's daughter angle *couldn't* work; I'm just not jumping on the bandwagon until I see actual proof. Right now, the rumormill doesn't prove anything to that effect.

it doesn't. but the rumor of Jessica Chastain once being up for this can't help but make me think that she was intended to be a daughter. it just makes too much sense to me; more sense than the lovers-having-a-huge-age-gap angle. and it's not that far from canon. Pym was extremely of protective of Janet when they partnered up. he did see her as a child.

Slightly convoluted idea, but I think this works... Pym and Janet are a couple of undercover superhero operatives in the 60's. Possibly working for SHIELD. Go full-Watchmen here.

Making personal connections establishes a lot more dramatic (and comedic, for that matter) tension. Just throwing random coworkers together with no reason to really give a crap about each other establishes no drama or comedy potential at all.

Family and romance makes better stories than "acquaintances."
