Dan Didio on Dan Didio

Cool interview. I like what he said at the end about events.

Part 2: http://www.newsarama.com/dcnew/Didio/Didio02.html

His comments on Slobo are irritating as hell; either he just didn't get the character at all or he didn't even read those books.

But the rest of it -- where he talks about character progress and the generational aspects of the DCU and what's truly important in telling a story given how the DCU works -- were really damn good.

What's great is that he has the same "the worst thing for fans to feel is apathy" mindset as Quesada, but he's approaching it completely intelligently and cautiously. He tempers that attitude with a clear limits and directions based on the integrity of the characters so that they're not just throwing the baby out with the bathwatever every time we see change in the universe. I may not agree with some or even a lot of Didio's decisions, but I'd trust him a hell of a lot more with my favorite characters than I'd trust Quesada.

I clicked on this thread expecting hot gay clone-on-original action.

I am sorely disappointed.

I think Didio is just as bad as Quesada.

There's some Spider-Man slash I could direct you to.

A bit more insight into what production behind the scenes were like during the making of Infinite Crisis.

I really liked his comments on DC One Million, because they're absolutely true.

And an...interesting (but not exactly unique)...opinion regarding how Kyle Rayner was originally brought about.

At least Joey Q made this.

What has Didio done?:o

Yeah Didio's reign has seen the raping of Nightwing, return of Jason Todd, and he got rid of Wally West. (for now) He's pretty bad.

i didnt want to admit it, but youre right about that... but i still think marvel is overall in a suckier place than DC... i dont play favorites with companies but i dont like anything thats coming out of marvel right now...

Both companies piss me off almost equally.

Infinite Crisis. Matt Murdock beating the crap out of people in prison.

Civil War. Nightwing, Nightwing-Jr and Nightwingette. :down

I think the bad things that have happened under Dan DiDio do not outweigh the good he has done.

Half the people posting here probably wern't reading as many DC comics as they are now - or maybe not even read DC comics before. I know I'm picking up more comics than I have been for years - and with Identity Crisis, Infinite Crisis and the lead-ins, Seven Soldiers and 52 I havn't been enjoying that many DCU titles in years. And I know he has done a lot of questionable things - the Flash for me sticks out. But I think the DCU could be in a much worse position.

And I like him more than Joey Q. He doesn't come accross as that much of a wanker.

Yes way, if you took off the DC blinders you'd see it too.

Well let's see.

2 clunkers this year for DC - Nightwing and The Flash. Possible - Robin.

Clunkers for Marvel this year - Everything Spider-Man related, Civil War, Milligan's X-Men, New Avengers, trillions of very late books like Wolverine/Hulk, etc etc.

Sorry, I don't see it. Oh, and I love the return of Jason Todd (the character, not the implementation), so X that too.

I'm with you. I NEVER thought I'd ever own a Green Lantern or a WW book. EVER.

I agree, I read more DC titles than Marvel ones at this point, but that doesnt make DC perfect, not by a long shot. And some of Didio's editorial decisions have been just as bad as Quesada, and I really dont take into account their personalities. They both seem like *****ebags to me, and I dont have a level of more or less, a *****e bag is a *****e bag. Didio is just a lot more low profile than Quesada therefore there isnt that much backlash. In closing, im not fond of any of the folks running the comic book companies now.

:)

Thats your opinion. But dont worry, ill be watching you.

Oh come now, DC is far from perfect, BUT...

They seem far more on the ball, with the long plotted stories and lack of focus on the SHOCK value and the here-and-now.
