Angry nerds yelling and chanting isn't a riot.
I mean, I don't condone that either, but it's always bothered me how sensationalistic media called those "riots". Meanwhile, an actual massive riot happened in Philly earlier this month and no one batted an eye. Then again, I think sports riots get way less negative press compared to political protests or whining about sauce.
When I saw this thread had been bumped I was afraid the news was going to be that CN had not been able to reach a deal with Roiland and Harmon and the show was done. I'm so pleased to be wrong.
Thank the Maker.
Plus syndication rights and all that.So that translates to what, basically 6-7 seasons? That's like talk show renewal deals. I can't recall another animated show getting that kind of pickup.

same
I can see this ending up like The Boondocks where the creator(s) jump ship before the deal is over. Then someone else throws it all together to finish what's left.
I think the Simpsons got close with a 3 season deal several years back that added up to 72 but I would not count that as I don't think the Simpsons is ever going to die.Plus syndication rights and all that.
But you're right. I don't recall any modern animated show getting an order this huge. Like maybe a 52-episode order tops for two 26-episode seasons, but nothing like this.

It is but even outside that realm there aren't many series on television, period, which gets a dedicated order for 70 episodes.

Nah. Adult Swim execs could become semi-billionaires from the Rick and Morty show.
The Boondocks was the kind of show they could screw around with for s**ts and giggles.

I was thinking about that too but my next thought was how long the Simpsons has squeezed out their episodes for 30 years. They aren't all great episodes and their best might be behind them but then Rick and Morty isn't aiming for 600+ episodes. The more appropriate comparison I guess is South Park which is still managing to churn them out after 20 years and nearly 300.How can they come up with 5 more seasons of material?
They covered so much ground already, lol.
