Sci-Fi Dan Trachtenberg to direct Predator film ‘Badlands’

Sounds like a good time with some minor nitpicks, pretty much what I expected. Bring it on!!

Now do I see it in 3D is the question??
Can you watch it in IMAX or another premium format? If so, I'd suggest those. Even if you are a big fan of 3D the movies pretty dark so I don't know how that plays for you.

Sadly closest IMAX is some way from where I live. 3D is not the be all and end all for me so happy to see it as standard just seemed to be in 3D a lot at my local cinema so wondered if it was made with that specifically in mind but appears not.

Thanks for the heads up anyway!

RT for movies pre 2000 don't really matter. Cause the reviews for those are lower amounts and largely not of the era they came out. Just Internet people who do a retrospective. So I immediately give no credence to that Predator or Predator RT score

Wasn’t the whole thing that the Predators were hunting the worst of the worst in terms of cold blooded killers? I mmmmeeeeeaaaaaaannnnn…

I mean, a mercenary, russian special forces, multiple gangster enforcers, member of an african warlord, and a serial killer. Fits right in.

Pre-2000 reviews are far more discerning. Less Youtubers and bloggers who like jangling keys.

What If the Predator Was Unleashed Against the Nazis?

  • The Direct: "When you were thinking of this idea, what was some stuff that maybe, as you're thinking about these wide swings, what was maybe too much or too far?"
Dan Trachtenberg: The very first nugget of the idea was, what if the Predator wins? And I just really didn't want it to be a slasher movie where the slasher wins, I really wanted you to root for the guy, and then, in rooting for it, I was like, Well, I guess he could be, like, set in WWII, and he's kicking Nazi butt or something. But even then, I felt like that's not really a special new movie. And then it became, wait a second, what if he's really the protagonist of his own story, and I get people to really root for him on his own journey, his own adventure.

What was too far? I don't know. There were probably just some designs, because every time I sort of asked people to kind of break down what the idea is of a Yautja to try and find a new look for it. And there probably were some designs that were like too far gone, and even some of the wardrobe designs were maybe too cultured...

... Ngila Dickson was our costume designer who won an Academy Award for 'Lord of the Rings.' Usually, the Yautja's costuming is done just by the creature designers. This is the first time we really had someone who's like the costume department, a true artist of that specific craft is designing their wardrobe and some early designs felt like a little too medieval and too Earthbound, and really tried to find something that spoke to, and was a little bit more Spartan, since their culture is so hardcore, and also that was A little bit more like Conan Barbarian nomad, nomadic culture.

Watched Killer or Killers. It was like watching a motion comic IMO. It was good, but not Predator or Prey good. Felt like a better version of what Eyes of Wakanda and such wanted to be

Yeah, I like it well enough. But it's missing the character, the soul of the good flicks*. A big part of that is structure and another is just that it's animated. The sweatiness., the grit, the grim is a big part of the Predator.

*Of which I include 2. Danny Glover is the best.

I think my biggest thing here is they sort of deliver what people wanted out of a full fledged Prey sequel, but only partly. Like, Feudal Samurai vs Predator was a movie people wanted. We sort of get it here, but it's short and just essentially action with barest minimum or a short story. I could have seen any of these as a full Predator movie and they could have been good movies like Prey was. But just plays like an episode of these D+ Marvel cartoons to me instead of a movie.

Predator 2 is a very underrated movie to me also. Some elements don't age well, sure. But it's a fun as hell action movie
