Daniel Craig confirmed as new James Bond

And yes read Casino Royale, it's excellent. Not much action though but it would make a great thriller.

You can bet that will change for the movie.

Apparently the book will only make up the last part of the movie

Craig is the best casting choice since Connery.

Although it is true that he doesn't resemble what people have come to expect from a James Bond, that is in fact what makes him so right. Roger Moore, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan have all been the fruits of MGM's attempts to find someone a bit like Sean Connery. Or at least someone with dark hair. That's about the only thing that they have in common with each other.

Daniel Craig has the potential to be to Bond what Bale has been to Batman. He fits the Bond of literature better. Craig looks like a fighter. He looks like someone who has had a career in the military before joining the secret service- as Bond should. I really hope that the producers are serious about returning Bond to his cold, sadistic roots. I hope they finally give him the 3" scar on his cheek he was always supposed to have.

Sure, I want them to keep the class and sophistication (though I would like to point out that the James Bond of the novels drinks Krug champagne as often as vulgar Vodka Martinis), and maybe I would even prefer them to stick a little die in Craig's hair. But the potential here to rejuvinate the franchise from a campy-sci fi-sex-farce and back into a gritty, character driven spy thriller is huge.

Best post of this thread.I agree 100% .

Just how much will they change? That's the big question. And how much will they keep? From what I read they still want a beginner Bond, and therefore a "prequel" movie. Bad idea.

Not so sure about Daniel Craig...I've only seen him in two movies....and he didn't give me a Bond vibe in any of those roles... Plus I don't even think he's that handsome enough for the role

Awesome choice for Bond. Alot of the brits are happy, but many yanks think this is the end of the Bond franchise. Why? Dunno, according to Fleming's(y'know, the guy who created him) vision Craig looks more like Bond than Brosnan.

He'll bring much needed freshness to the role. And he doesn't have a stupid squeaky irish accent either.

So if their goal was to get a Bond that looks even older than Brosnan, mission accomplished.

I feel bad for Daniel Craig. It's one thing to bash somebody for their acting skills, but on their looks? Poor guy..

Anyway, he's an interesting choice for James Bond. I'm sure that he'll do a good job in terms of acting, but I don't know if he will be accepted by the so-called "mainstream". I mean..Pierce Brosnan is a hard act to follow (AS James Bond..not the movies.)

Pierce had all of the qualities of a great James Bond. He did a good job, but his movies were uneven to say the least. It's not his fault of course, it's just the micro-management of this franchise is slowly killing it. Look at the Superman movies with that Salking (Spelling?) family controling that property...and how it went from greatness to a thud by part 4.

I do, however, think that Martin Campbell is not right for this movie. Not to say he's a bad director, but I feel like you're going to reramp the series, start it with a clean slate. This applies to the screenwriters too...who are mediocre at best. Thank God that Paul Haggis is polishing their script.

I just think that Campbell is like a safety net for the Eon. He's a good director, but very SAFE. I wish they would go with a bolder choice like Chris Nolan (With Christian Bale...hehe) or whatever.

But I feel like Eon might be threatened if they got a strong minded director like Nolan who could ruin THEIR control of the film...

Campbell is still good though, so I'm not bashing the guy.. Could he be a puppet or a yes man? That I don't know...

Cambpell is the only thing that makes me have hope for this movie. He revamped the series once, he could easily do it again.

I can't believe this guy is Bond!! Did any of you guys see his press conference? he made Michael Wilson look 25! speaking of Wilson, I'd expect more from the son of Batman!!

Well I'm a yank and I feel this is inspired casting. I'm a fan of Layer Cake, saw it this year & it's in my Top 10 so far. This guy has got the chops to pull the role off. Especially since they're basing this on Casino Royale. This is the first time in many many years that I'm excited about a Bond flick. My only gripe is that I didn't like Goldeneye so I'm not really that crazy about Martin Campbell coming back. But we'll see what happens, this flick has potential to be the best spy thriller since the first Jason Bourne movie.

Goldeneye was okay, but better than the stinkers: The World is not Enough and Die Another Day. Those movies...MY GOD...were boring charmless flicks.

Call me crazy, I still think that Tommarow Never Dies was Brosnan's best, along with maybe Goldeneye. People don't give enough props with "TND", esp with that awesome Sheryll Crow song.

This is the guy Flemming said he thought was most like the way he envisioned Bond

I am so glad he got the part. I love the logo too.

Going off that picture alone...if Brosnan wasn't going to get the part, then I'm sure glad Craig did.

Hoagy Charmichael?

Kinda reminds me of Ioan Gruffudd...

It must the lighting or perhaps a touchup, but his hair looks much darker.
