Hey all.

Just for the sake of wasting space on the threads, I thought I'd drag up a probably long dead topic as to whose Batman score you prefer: Danny Elfman for 1989/1992 Tim Burton Bat-films or the Hans Zimmer/James Newton Howard Batman Begins?

Without hesitation, Danny Elfman.
As my expert music friend says, he is a genius close to John Williams.
Zimmer is someone who composes (some times electronic) music for cash. He has some recurent beats in some movies : i.e. batman begins and MI2.
I like what he did in Begins, but he was helped by Newton Howard to make it beautiful and powerful, yet nos a impressive as Elfman's Batman and Batman Returns. We still remember those tunes today, as Batman Begins will be forgotten probably. It fits well the mood, but not more.

Danny Elfman without a doubt. He gave Batman a theme tune to recognise.

Danny Elfman

but I like both.

I prefer the darker atmosphere that Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard have brought to Batman through the music, I like what Elfman did but just seems cheesy now and I´m pretty sure the combination of Zimmer and Howard have composed an outstanding new Batman theme that we have yet to hear in it´s full glory

each theme fits their movies well respectively. I wouldn't want Elfman's in BB and I wouldn't want Zimmer/Howard's in Batman89 or BR

Elfman's was so good, they brought it over to use in BTAS for a time. So I'd say he's the better of the two.

Every time in B89 he scored something, it married the scene perfectly, even enhanced it. He managed to find the proper tone each time and seamlessly integrate it into the score--the Axis chemical plant fight is not rescuing Vicky Vale, and "Descent Into Mystery" is not "Up the Cathedral". They each have their distinctive feel and mood, which I enjoy.

Danny Elfman of course, followed 2nd by Shirley Walker.

Elfman with easy, I like HZ and Newton but Elfman kicks their asses to be honest. If you heard half of the tunes on the BB score, it could be any movie you wouldnt reconise it unless youve studied it. With Elfmans 89 score you'd know it was from Batman straight away.

^Youve probably heard it but its so plain you didnt think of it as a theme :p

Elfman by far.

The Zimmer/Howard score was good, but it didnt work for Batman in my opinion.

Perhaps the score for The Dark Knight will be stronger.

If you have to search that hard for a theme, it's obviously not that great.

In the score to the first film, the main "Batman" theme only shows up towards the end, kind of like a springboard for the second film...

Absolutely, that's the whole idea. It's Batman Begins! There's a whole theme that's written and on purpose not in the movie. We were basically betting that this movie might work out alright and there would be another one, so we wanted the character to develop. He hasn't earned that theme yet!

Batman doesn't need to earn a theme to his own movie.

When it´s the beginning of Batman he does, he hasn´t proven himself yet thus hasn´t earned his theme

I dont buy that whole he hasnt earned a theme yet. I mean if he did have one... Would anyone say "HEY! BATMAN HASNT EARNT HIS THEME YET!". I seriously doubt it.

Guess you guy´s don´t get what they were going for in not including a main theme

Haha, Batman Begins score was terrible. :down I didn't like how barren and generic it sounded.

I enjoyed both for each of the films that they were presented in, but overall the Elfman score is a bit more to my liking.

Why you guys have to bash something in order to like something else?

I get the explaination, i just dont buy it. I think its more to do with them being lazy or not being able to come up with something they feel they can put out there yet, weather its because they dont want to put something out unless they feel it can stand next to Elfmans, or just cant think of anything... I dont know.

Them being lazy? they already have the whole Batman theme written but they chose not to include for the reasons they stated that he hasn´t earned it yet, Tim Burton´s Batman had Bruce already being experienced as Batman so he had his whole theme but BB shows the beginning of Bruce becoming Batman so why wouldn´t it make sense for him not to have earned his theme yet when he is just starting out

I certainly not, since it had one. Now, the use of it was totally different from Elfman's.
