The Dark Knight opened with a $158mil weekend, grossed $533mil domestically, and just over $1 billion worldwide. Some of this might have had to do with Ledger, who's to say?

What do we think TDKR will open with? Will it do better or worse than TDK? (Keep in mind ticket prices will be higher in 2012 than they were in 2008)

I think it won't quite hit the opening weekend mark of TDK but will have very similar domestic and worldwide numbers. Ledger may have brought some casual viewers in on opening weekend, but the strength of the film and franchise will bring those same people back to see TDKR, although maybe not the first weekend.

I definitely think it will be the highest grossing film of the year. That we can agree on.

Crossing a billion is no small feat, but if any franchise has the buzz and potential to do it again its with TDKR.

it will open bigger than TDK... TDK was def limited by the fact that WB released it on less screens than other big movies (exe spidy 3)... that was evident by the number of sellouts and carry over to monday... TDKR is going to be huge.

and it will cross a billion as its overseas take will increase with the addition of china and the emergence of the russian market.

How many screens of the 4,366 were IMAX screens for the opening of TDK? I see SP3 got a release on about 100 less screens than TDK. I was wondering what percentage of the screens were IMAX and if that potentially led to less gross. Would be interesting to know.

On another note, 4,366 is still a lot. 3 years later, a film like Pirates 4 opened on less than 4,000 screens.
