I think the potential is there. I like Launchpad and how he is portrayed. He could use a little more humor though. The villains aren't bad, though with the lack of anthropomorphic ducks, it's kind of random that Quacker Jack is still called "Quack"erjack.
Gosalyn being his actual daughter as opposed to adopted is a change, though I liked the touch of his wife dying being what sets him off toward being a superhero.
I gotta say though...there were a couple things I thought were a little cheesy:
A) Honker being some sort of highly skilled street fighter/Robin type character. I prefer him as the nerd next door and I think the story you have could be pulled off just well with Honker in classic form. Just have him be a witness to the murder, and Darkwing and the Bad Guys are both after him, the bad guys to kill him, Darkwing to protect him and get his help in solving the crime.
It's your take though.
B) The whole "you need a symbol" idea. It seems uneccessary. The stuffed duck Gosalyn had was a nice nod to the source material, but making it his "symbol" seems quite ham fisted. Especially since it would appear that this interpretation of the character doesn't have a costume. Is he going to use guns to shoot the shape of a duck into a wall at the scene of every encounter?
C) I'm guessing this is going to be a more punisher-esque take on the character, judging by the arsenal we saw? I don't know, I'm just so used to the cartoon as a big fan, I'd like to see him portrayed as a more noir-ish type character, almost like Rorshach from Watchmen, or Sandman from JSA, with the detective-esque suit and hat. Moreso Sandman, as he used the gas gun, and I think it'd be cool to try and come up with a gas mask/disguise mask that maybe would be vaguely shaped like a duck, which would be in keeping with your idea that he "needs a symbol".
Anyway, that's just my thoughts. The production itself looks great, and as a huge fan of the show (I grew up with Tailspin, Bonkers, Gargoyles, and especially Darkwing), this has me very intrigued.
