Dating Issue - 17yo male/25yo female

I have heard there is an issue where a 25 year old female teacher has had sexual relations with a 17 year old male student.

The teacher, is being charged with having an "Improper Relationship" with a student. This is actually punishable up to 20 years in prison.

Now, the age of consent in Texas is 17. This guy was 17.

My thoughts are this.
The boy is old enough. No crime was committed. I dont see a problem on the LAW aspect of this issue. Now, we have an ethics issue. The teacher should be fired. If the individual was NOT at her school, then I would see no problem. But he is at the same school, so she needs to pay.

What are your thoughts?

She really did nothing illegal, though it seems the law down there is contradicitng itself. Its ok to have sex with a 17 year old but as long as its not your student.

From what I understand, there is a law, that basically covers teachers.
Its a strange one, but technically under this law, she is guilty.

It only applies to teachers, with those students at their own school.

Teachers don't ***** your students! What the hell, the teachers are totally at fault here and if this woman knew the law, broke it and got caught then she deserves what she gets. I don't think it's a bad law, to have a "catch-22" for the age of consent regarding teachers and students. How hard would it have been to wait until he graduated, when everything would've been legal. Someone I knew was a high school teacher, basically right out of college and got asked to prom by one of his students and turned her down because although the girl was good looking he knew it was a bad idea.

But seriously, it's not technically illegal, but it's a lot like sexual harassment laws in the work place. Both adults are consenting age, but because one is a superior it can be seen as abuse of authority/manipulation even if it was consentual. Therefore teachers+current students+making babies= Illegal

Well after reading the article, I can see the issue but somehow her being imprisonned seems very wrong in itself to me. This was consensual with people old enough and that for me is the main issue. Would a professor who slept with a girl in college risk penal sanctions?

Aslong as both are good looking. I have a problem whenever I hear about this on the news and they show an extremely obese, FUGLY woman. Then I shead a tear for the poor bastard that thought that was attractive.

It seems to me that they would set up laws/regulations like this so the student wouldn't be given special privledges and the teacher curving the grades and such. Such as no dating coworkers/under ranking officers/patients.

in Texas that statute would most likely trump the age of consent. I'm guessing it has something to do with the student/teacher relationship, and all that fun stuff. Texas is a weird state, you can still be puit to death by firing squad there so something like this doesnt surprise me. Teacher should've known better.

oh it is illegal, it's under mistrust or something along those lines.

I don't know if it is still illegal at higher forms of education but it is in this case. I think it comes down to taking advantage of one's position or something along those lines in order to manipulate others.

HOwever bosses both female and male having sex with their employees seem to happen all the time and it doesn't become an issue until someone is offended by it (either other members of the workforce of one of the members of the relationship0=). i guess in that respect, then it is similar, although people are more likely to have a problem with it in this situation.

now what i want to know is how exactly do these stories get out??? I was dating a girl at school for a long time and no one except those close to me and her were none the wiser, i can see a feasible manner in which a teacher could techincally get it on with a student and get away with it, heck, i've even seen it happen.
