According to Rich Johnston, David Finch has confirmed that his and Loeb's Ultimatum series will mark the end of the Ultimate line. There's a link to a Youtube video of some kind, but it's not working for me.

Marvel: "Hey, we've got 5-4 consistently well selling titles that also support the occasional mini and annual collection, not to mention being able to support some small events. LET'S CANCELL THIS MUTHA!"

Sure...

Sure...

What do you think is going to be more profitable, Ultimate X-Men #95 or a new Ultimate X-Men #1 in a few years? If you said the latter, you're correct.

They'll call it Ultimately Ultimate X-Men, XTREEM!

I strongly doubt they'd really take a line and completely reboot it with so few years behind it already. What are they going to do, RE-re-imagine Peter Parker's origin?

"Sure you saw what Spider-man could look like reinterpreted in the early 2000s, but now let your head spin at what he would have looked like reinterpreted in the late 2000s."

It's kinda funny when you put it that way. I don't know why they'd cancel the series, even if it isn't selling that well, it is probably staving off at least one or two DC books. And I'm just scared that Loeb is ending it.

I think Hans meant more of a relaunch as opposed to a total reboot

Well, you can try... depending on how Ultimatum ends, a relaunch could make sense... or it could be a situation where Ultimate X-men does pick up where Ultimatum left off, or with some sort of gap, like one year later.

We don't know what will happen.

I don't think they'll cancel the whole line.A book or two?yes.

People love Ultimate Spiderman too much for them to cancel it, plus hasnt bendis ALREADY stated that he's already planned out the stories for USM for like the next two years?

I just never got into them... I felt like UXM was always upsetting, I don't really like Fantastic Four to begin with, Ultimates 1 and 2 I love dearly (but way to take your time between issues) and well, Ultimate Spider-man is Bendis, and it just depends on how you feel about him I guess, a few runs were genuinely fun but it wasn't for me.

Well, if indeed this is confirmed, why am I not the least bit surprised? There have comments made by others, including myself (and I know TMOB can back be up on this :yay:) that predicted that Marvel was going to phase out the Ultimate books in favor of their old 616, especially since the sales of the Ultimate books --which at one time were outselling their 616 counterparts--had declined and the fact that it's major selling point--that it was an updated universe unburdened by continuity--was no longer valid considering how it began to develop an interconnected continuity all of its own. Naturally, this was once thought of as nuts. Well, where are all those comments about how the Ultimate Universe is going to replace the 616 universe?

Fact is, the Ultimate books have essentially served their purpose: to bolster newfound interest in Marvel characters that were once caught in severe stagnation. Once Quesada (who I read somewhere was originally not all that keen on Ultimate Marvel anyway and that it was more Bill Jemas' brainchild anyway) started investing more talent into the main 616 titles, then people started getting emotionally invested in the "real" Marvel universe again, as they really always had been. Course it helps that Marvel's 616 titles "adopted" the Ultimate titles spirit in some cases. Civil War essentially was the final step in "Ultimizing" all the Avengers and Marvel Heroes titles, and one could even argue that the whole One More Day/Brand New Day fiasco over in Spider-Man made Amazing Spider-Man into an Ultimate Spider-Man lite.

If they're cancelling one or two titles, here's hoping Ultimate X-Men is one of them. That book's been worthless since Vaughan left. It's like Kirkman crammed the worst parts of the 90s into a crummy little package, and threw in a useless version of Phoenix for good measure.

Ultimates 3 is just... there are no words.

I just kinda stopped reading Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate Spider-Man after growing bored with them. I feel like I'm the only person on earth whose interest disappeared at the prospect of Marvel Zombies, and Ult. Spidey's "Warriors" trade just wore me out.

bendis has already said USM will be continuing.

To be honest the ultimate universe with the exception of USM (which after a dip is great once again) has outlived its usefulness.

They should cancel some titles and go for cinematic assemble adventures like the first few arcs of every single Ultimate title. In the beginning every Ultimate title is written like a blockbuster movie. X-men, FF, Spidey, Ultimates (especially X-men and Ultimates) They become to feel like comics around issue 20. We have 616 for that. Let's just use the Ultimates format with volumes and epic twists. (And maybe keep USM as an ongoing)

YES!

Mercifully.

I REALLY REALLY hope this is true! The entire Ultimate line has been a waste of paper and creative talent. Now, there's just as much confusing continuity trying to follow an Ultimate storyline as the real universe. There's no point in continuing the bastardization if it's not going to garner any new readers or kiddies.

What about continuing to provide stories for the current readers

I'd like Ultimate Spider-Man to keep going, but I could take or leave the rest.
