Problem is that the vast majority of the time they are neither of those.

Disagreed, in general I think there are just as many examples of it working for me as not.

Like in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, I liked most of them.

Official plot description released.
A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Tony Kebbell joins the cast.

Apes on horses, y'all.

Are they gonna be talking by this point? I know it's a decade later.

Matt Reeves' Bad Robot pal Michael Giacchino to Score Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Composer Michael Giacchino has just revealed through his Twitter feed that he'll be providing the score for Matt Reeves' Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, set for release on May 23, 2014.

Featuring a script from Scott Z. Burns, Amanda Silver, Rick Jaffa and Mark Bomback, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes continues the story that began in 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes and features a cast that includes Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo and Judy Greer.

In the film, a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.

Patrick Doyle provided the score for Rupert Wyatt's Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Giacchino previously worked with Reeves on 2010's Let Me In.

Poor Doyle, but I'm happy for Giacchinno. And am very much looking forward to what he'll come up with for this.

I am sad Doyle isnt back, his score fo ROTPOTA was superb, and suited the movie perfectly, but Giachinno is damn good in his own right.

He'll give it a dark retro tone. What he did with Cloverfield was classic.

Knowing Giacchino's style, I imagine his score will heavily hearken back to the style of scores like the original Planet of the Apes and The Twilight Zone, which is going to be awesome. :woot:

Great! First movie had a great score, but Giacchino's going to make it better this time around.

Damn why am I keep forgetting Matt Reeves is directing this? nice to hear Giacchino is doing the score.

Patrick Doyle delivered a great score last time. I expect no less from Giacchinno.

I love Giachinno, but it always bothers me when franchises can't keep one consistent composer.
