Look I'm not saying that the Super Bowl spot is extremely important but I think Fox needs to turn things up a little. The first trailer was light on action and the Empire rollout was embarrassing. They need to show the scale of the movie in the next trailer and get the posters right. Show some Sentinel action!

Yep, out of the 300ish real life people I know that I follow where probably more than half were watching the games, I saw one person tweet about Spider-Man and maybe two about Transformers. So they weren't a huge deal to the GA.

Some of us here are old enough to remember back in the late 90s. Super Bowl broadcasts were stuffed with movie spots. Even Dark City got one.

And no one is saying that they shouldn't. It's just not necessary to do it at the Super Bowl anymore. The only time that they should be worried the most about is the 2-3 months before its release, so that the GA know that it's close and it stays fresh on their minds, because that is usually around the time that they would make up their minds whether or not to go.

Wait up, people, how do you actually KNOW FOR SURE jocks/average joes aren't talking about Transformers, Captain American or Spider-man right now after the trailers aired?

You have a mutant power to know which users on Twitter/Facebook/Internet is a geek, which aren't? :whatever: WOW

Keep in mind, this game was a total bust. People I saw online were calling it the worst Super Bowl ever, and a lot of people posted that they'd turned it off when it was clear it was going to be a blowout.

If there was a big viewer dropoff tonight, that's a big audience lost that would have never seen the spot. That's a waste of $4 million right there.

Not if you put the trailer in the first half or around halftime!

Keep in mind, Halftime performance still draws big numbers! A lot of Bruno Mars fans out there.

Doesn't that work both ways? You could argue that films like Iron Man and Transformers were already destined for greatness with or without a spot.

It was the worst Super Bowl I have ever seen and I've watched around the last 15 or so. Positively awful.

Well, they're called eyes, for one. People can look at their own personal feeds for instance. And I for sure haven't seen anyone in my family and friends who would fall on the jock side of things say a damn thing about any of the movie spots, while the geeks that's all they really talked about with a few of the other commercials, while they just say the game was a waste. Use some common sense.

I didn't start watching the Superbowl until recently so I had no idea Dark City had a Superbowl ad.

And the studios likely don't have a say when that happens. It's up to the SB producers themselves.

They dominated social media for almost 24 hours. Hardly an embarrassment.

My favorite spot was either the puppy and horse one or the full house reunion yogurt commercial :)

Not a good common sense to go by! There are a lot of factors involved!

My Facebook, for instance is equally AWFUL with geek interaction ALL the time from people usually jocks/average joes, now I am beginning to think that's universally true. Facebook is just that way!

However, on Twitter, non-geeks are more vocal about these things.

Check Jordin Spark's tweet for example. She drooled over the Transformers spot!

    https://twitter.com/JordinSparks/status/430135457507061760

And I have many examples like this, but takes time to compile them all!

There's no need to keep going through this broken record of a discussion either.

Um, no. They were both big-budget films intended to launch new franchises and ended up being major box-office disasters. And studios don't pay that kind of money for a Super Bowl ad on a film they hope only a modest crowd will show up for.

I just hope that come May, we don't come back to this point in time and say, "if only they did a Super Bowl ad."

It's certainly not too late, but at the same time I don't think it's ever too early to hype up the studio's biggest film in a while.

I know this is me being selfish but I really wanted a Super Bowl ad.

To her credit, Jordin Sparks was one of the first to get the ball rolling on District 9.

But Transformers 4? That's headed downward gross-wise (domestically).
