DC Comics Solicitations for August, 2008

Wow Winick, don't you go and worry about reading Nightwing's book before you have him hooking up with Starfire again or anything. It's not like his main writer would have anything to say about his love life, nope.

Nightwing vs. Two-Face in a RIP tie-in. Nice. Talia now Dent. Maybe he's inheriting some of the big villains finally. Or maybe he's in for that costume change that's been rumored...

Oh, right. Eh.

Seriously, though, why does RIP have to invade Detective Comics? And why does it have to bring ****ing Hush along with it? If anyone can make it work, Dini can, but he really shouldn't have to. Just let him do his own thing, for crying out loud. Not everyone's reading or even cares about RIP. :o

With Rick Leonardi drawing Robin and Spoiler back in the mix, I might have to pick Robin's comic up again. How did Spoiler come back, anyway?

Superman/Batman sounds kind of funny. I may give that book another try, too.

Flash would be so much better without Freddie Williams. I mean, I respect the fact that the guy can apparently crank out two monthlies while most of his peers struggle to finish just one on time, but his art is grating on my nerves more and more with each issue. It was fine when Waid was being mysteriously mediocre, but Peyer's actually writing good Flash comics that deserve great art again.

Meh, Majestic is a villain in Wildcats, apparently. That kind of blows. I always liked him as an ally. Still, everything Gage has been saying about Wildcats sounds good, so I'm looking forward to it.

Is Jason Aaron really writing Northlanders? Something tells me that's a typo...

Madame Xanadu seems interesting. I hope it's not another one of those Vertigo takes where they throw everything out and start fresh, though.

And where would the current owner of that costume be? Dead, I hope
Weirdo.

Dude, you haven't even tried it.

You know, it is possible that the other writers chose to deal with R.I.P. because of its obvious implications and ramifications for their titles.

Probably by not dying in the first place.

I was thinking the same thing :csad:

Dude, I don't care to.

That's certainly possible. Actually, that's probably what happened. That doesn't mean I have to be interested, though. I'll probably just pass on those issues, since I have absolutely zero interest in Hush. I skipped a couple of Detective issues before, when Dini took a break, so it's nothing new for me.

You know, I actually understand where Winick is coming from. The Titans book has a very, very long and proud tradition of complete gratuity and sexual melodrama up the wall. Read any of the Wolfman stuff, or even the 90s/early 2000s stuff, and it's basically this smutty soap opera where everyone gets naked a lot.

It just wasn't, y'know...stupid. It was this kinda funny, interesting book with pretty good characterizations and development. Like a good TV show, you know? And we kinda saw hints of it in Winick's first issue. By the second issue, though, it's just degenerated into this dysfunctional crapshoot dramabomb. With horrible art. And just from the solicits, it doesn't look like it's gonna change from that anytime soon.

Superman/Batman sounds kind of funny. I may give that book another try, too.
Ahh...you may want to glance at some of the recent issues before really committing. It's most generally a good comic but almost certainly written by a guy whose knowledge of prior continuity -- or rather, characterization -- is a bit...limited.

Basically, imagine the most unsubtle, one-dimensional, fiendishly cackling black hat version of Amanda Waller you can...and then multiply that by about ninety. That's about the lengths to which certain characters can be taken in the comic.

I know that, but I consider Dick and Kory as officially over especially since Nightwing Annual #2. It's like Winick doesn't bother to read other books sometimes :(

My DC pull list is a bit in flux; of those, I know I'll be getting Green Lantern and Wonder Woman (apparently we'll be touching on AA that month; some pretty extensive revising of history is required to salvage the Amazons from that) (Fables is apparently skipping a month).

The other titles, Booster Gold, Justice Society of America, and Northlanders are up in the air at the moment; the former, I'm waiting on who the next permanent writing team is; JSA has been dragging for months now, but got better last month, so I'm going to determine whether or not to continue based on tomorrow's; Northlanders is a good book too, but I may switch to trades after the first arc.

Well, it's not like he's ever gonna get married to Barbara or anything. We know that much for certain now. :o

I just noticed Luke Ross will be doing interiors for GLC - I love his Kyle so can't wait for this now.

Matthew Sturges on Blue Beetle and Chuck Dixon on Booster Gold will certainly be an interesting change of pace.

I still have no idea who Bruce Jones is wirting about in the Checkmate book.

I have a feeling Tom Peyer is going to just get better and better in Flash - I even find myself warming to Williams just because of the writing.

I might try Action Comics, I like Brainiac and it looks like Johns has stopped feeding us Silver Age craptastic Legion.
