Ok, I just got to thinking about how Marvel is rolling out lots of films now. The last few have been les than spectacular but I think the new ones will be better. That said, I'm wanting to see some DC heroes on the bigscreen. So I just wanted to list what I know and ask for info on any that I don't list.

We have Bats and Supes already lined up for sequels. So...

Wonder Woman:
We have Whedon directing with a script already turned in. Speculation seems to be he'll pick Biel as Di and I can get behind that since I've seen her with straight hair (would look MUCH better as WW that way than with the curly locks IMO!). She definitely has the build and athleticism.
Did DC like the first script?

Flash:
Goyer writing and directing. Hopefully Ryan Reynolds starring.
I'm not crazy about Goyer directing. I think he could write a great script but I just think he's a weak director. You can almost see in Blade 3 where Ryan would probably say "Hey, can I do this?" and Goyer instead of being the leader of the project and shooting down all the sily foolishness, whimping to him and saying "yeah sure Ry, whatever you wanna do!" The result: a less than super hero film. I DO like reynolds for Wally West though. If they just get a strong director.
What's the latest on this? I thought he had turned in a script.

Shazam:
I know it's in the works. Just can't remember who is directing. This is one that I would really love to see done the right way. Kind of light but not a comedy. It's been a while since I heard anything. What's the holdup?

Plastic man:
I'll just say one thing about this. Well, 2 things actually:
1. This is the DC film I want to see more than any other if they use
2. The Wachowski Bros. script from '95. This would be the coolest superhero movie if they'd just use this script as is. And let the Wachowski's direct. When I read it I picture Jim Carrey but he is about too old now.

Green Lantern:
Well, I guess everyone knows the dark 'Black' cloud that seems to be hanging over this one. Honestly I don't believe DC would be that stupid. I mean, if they allowed that, it would be probably the worst thing to EVER happen to a revered comic book icon. I think DC knows the feelings of the fans over the news of Black playing the Lantern by now and I would have to think, unless they are completely mental, they have scrapped their plans for this version of the character. That said, I recall mention of a proposal someone presented about a trilogy involving the Corps and was on a massive scale. I seemed to recall reading about it in Wizard or something a year or 2 ago. Does anyone know who was behind this? THAT would be the way to go!

Green Arrow:
I know he is going to be on Smallville but I think a GA movie done right would rock! Kiefer is just about too old to play him so I don't have anyone else to recommend. Just thought he deserved a mention as worthy of having his own flick.

Aquaman:
Another one that could be a big hit on a massive scale. Maybe they're waiting for marvel to do Namor and see how it pans out. I could see his being a HUGE underwater epic!

Teen Titans:
I'd like to see this done but the only problem is, if it's good and demands sequels, the 'kids' playing the parts are gonna age noticeably over the course of 3 or 4 films as opposed to the comic versions who do not! I'd still like to see it though!

I guess that's about it. Whaddaya know about any of the above?

Ok, starting fresh, I decided to leave the original post so newcomers could see how it started out! I think I'll list projects that don't already have a forum, as listing movies such as The Dark Knight would just be redundant! Any info you feel needs to be added in this first post, please PM me and I'll add it! I don't want to go TOO crazy like putting everyone's 'dream casting' list (there are other threads for that!), so I'll just stick to the facts as we know them, or even strongly believed rumors!

Ok, it's been a while but I thought I'd update some stuff here. Looks like as of this time, on the near horizon we have Watchmen (assuming the recent court ruling in favor of FOX doesn't throw a monkeywrench into those works, a certain sequel to TDK (no way WB won't make a followup to the second highest grossing film of all time), Jonah Hex with Josh Brolin, and a Green Lantern film in the works. I'll try to update the films listed below and some may disappear as I go along depending on what info I can find. Again, any info anyone has, post it!

JLA
title:
director:
producer:
writer:Michele and Kieran Mulroney(???)
cast:
start date:
release date:
news:I think this one may be on hold (certainly the incarnation that was originally planed) indefinitely. WB is probably going to take a more Marvel-like approach, leading with solo films and tying the heroes together in a team film later. If there's no word on this film by mid-year, I'll probably remove this one.

GREEN ARROW
latest:
title: SuperMax
director:
producer: David Goyer (???)
writer: David Goyer and Justin Marks
cast:
start date:
release date:
news:I haven't heard anything on this film for a while either. Again, if there's no new news by mid-year, I'll remove this listing too.

SHAZAM!
Looks like this one ain't gonna happen! I only leave this here because I want to see something done with this property so badly. But I'd rather them abandon it than make a 'dark' version of this character.

THE FLASH
title:
director:Shawn Levy
producer:Charles Roven and Alex Gartner
writer:
cast:
start date:
release date:
news: Another that seems to be on indefinite hold. I think this one getting made will depend on the success of GL. I'd say if GL does well, this one will be put on the fast track as another precursor to JLA.

GREEN LANTERN
title:
director: Greg Berlanti
producer:Joel Silver
writer:
cast:
start date:
release date:
news:This seems to be the one most likely to see production next. I read the script and with very few exceptions, it is very good! Hope they do this one justice!

WONDER WOMAN
title:
director:
producer:Joel Silver
writer:
cast:
start date:
release date:
news:Another possibility (besides the Flash) that will probably be determined based on the success of Green Lantern. If that film does well, look for this one to be put on the fast track.

TEEN TITANS
title:
director:
producer:Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster
writer:Mark Verheiden
cast:
start date:
release date:
news:

A dreadful script this site reviewed a few months back totally reinvented the beloved Green Lantern superhero into a bumbling idiot who, with his “Fear Factor-like” tactics, receives the power ring and the battery (lantern) to become the Green Lantern.

The reactions from fans everywhere was the same, unequivocal outrage that D.C. would ever even consider taking this approach with one of the most beloved comic book superheroes.

Well, it looks like the studio and D.C. comics have heard the fans and have decided against taking that route.

Speaking with Jack Black today, during the Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny junket, we had to ask for an update on The Green Lantern.

He admits that there was a script written for him, but, the fans had not reacted favorably to the idea of him playing the hero. So, as of now, it’s not something that is moving forward. Can you say big sigh of relief for the fans?

its unconfirmed whether it is dead or not so i thought it should be considered. i guess that meeting won't take place until the success of SR is evaluated by the studio

^ On that comment about Kiefer being too old to play Green Arrow....I disagree totally. The BEST Green Arrow incarnations are the ones where he's of the older eschelon of heroes. Slap a dirty blond goatee on KS and we're green-to-go!

Sutherland would rock as an older Ollie.

It's not confirmed but it's most likely. Chances are that none of the non-DTV DC projects that are not about the core seven members of the Justice League (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and the Martian Manhunter) or a Vertigo property are not going to get made. Even though work is done a property, don't be surprised that it will never get made.

Also, Akiva Goldsman is involved with Supergirl. You might have heard of him, he was the guy who crapped up Batman Forever and the Batman vs. Superman script, and wrote Batman & Robin. Think about it, do you think it would be any good?

Ex Machina and Y are getting movies?:wow: Sweet!:woot: They better be amazing.:cmad:

i heard he wrote a draft but decided to only produce it. He must be a fan if has kept the faith for so long- this was back in 2003. i think DC were all ready to go with it full steam ahead depending on SR. Now i am not sure about its future but it would be good to see her in a superman movie if her own is canned. and as for not putting her ahead of the original seven- she's already had one movie- where is martian manhunter, green lantern. Plus even as cringe worthy as the first one was there is still a cult fanbase living in hope.

Bumping the thread. Hippie Hunter did probably the first good thing in his life by making that list, and he could probably update it, with the names of the writer for Metal Men (Eric Champnella) and Shazam! (John August). And add/correct SuperMax and his creative team for the Green Arrow movie.

I'm hoping Shawn Levy's Flash doesn't happen either.

.....Am I the only one who seems to remember that Guillmero del Toro is helming Deadman?

He is producing it and probably shooting a promo trailer for the studio while doing Hellboy. And he's also producing the Death movie.

I don't think DC can compete with Marvel in terms of matching just as many movies as Marvel... DC just doesn't have the quality characters... the characters WITH potential however require time, effort, and careful planning... WW, Flash, Green Lantern are the only characters I see with potential having their own franchises... I also think WB should release ony ONE superhero flick every year just so the general public doesn't get tired of it by cramming every DC universe hero into their own flick... WB needs to take their time with it in other words. The rundown should be simple and spread out sort of like this:

TDK 2008
MOS 2009
WW 2010
BB3 2011
SR3 2012
Flash 2013
Green Lantern 2014
World's Finest/JLA Trinity 2015

That way its spread out and each solo gets careful planning and consideration for those are pretty much the only summer DC movies of that year... if they do well you can start a JLA trilogy in 2018 or beyond and make spinoffs from that if that goes well

Who says DC has to match Marvel movie for movie?
DC needs to get off its ass with GL, Flash and WW first, but there's plenty of potential with the rest of its roster. Whether or not they come to fruition is another matter, but I think you're selling them short.

I don't see why DC would need to restrict themselves to one movie a year. Marvel's had several years where they've released 2 or even 3 movies in the same year. The only that'll matter is the quality of the projects.

I just want Watchmen and The Dark Knight and I'll be happy forever.

But isn't WB the only studio with the rights to those characters... or am I wrong about that? If so, WB isn't gonna finance two comic books films for one summer. If other studios pick up those characters then it isn't a problem... but WB doesn't have the money to spend 200/300 million on two or three DC films every summer... its a sh:tty investment. ANd I don't think there is a whole lot of potential outsife those five characters IMO. But... since those are the biggest heroes... WB should let each of them have their own summer... why do you want them to compete with other DC films when they already have their hands full against Marvel? I think you can space it out nice... we don't need Flash in 2008 with TDK in that slot... maybe 09 earliest... WW looks like its probably 2009/2010... the SR sequel is around that time too. Thats too many movies in too small a gap, especially if DC is gonna go outside that box of those characters and do even more films... WW will be fine for summer of 2010 all by itself... if SR 3 is never made then you can subsitute that for a Flash or Green Lantern 2012/2013... I want to see a World's Finest or Trinity flick three years after Nolan and Singer are finished up though before they start a JLA series (probably with a new cast anyways since a JLA should be a trilogy)

WB does own the rights to all the DC characters, but they have a deal with Legendary Pictures to co-produce and finance movies up to 25 films until 2010. Naturally, all of those aren't going to be comic flicks, but that will help to cut down on expenditures. With Marvel getting a number of their properties back from outside studios, I imagine they'll be looking to get into a similar deal.

They don't need to have everything come out in the summer. It'd be smart to stagger some of the lesser known properties around President's Day, Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. Summer is the first release date that comes to mind, but we've seen movies in the fantasy/comic genre get a good reception around those dates. I understand about certain characters appearing to be more viable, but I'd be surprised if WB didn't look to push properties like Captain Marvel, Aquaman, Watchmen, Teen Titans, Doom Patrol, Plastic Man, etc. They're not all shatter box office records, but I think there's definitely potential to capture audiences further down the roster.
