DC Films Rundown

Well, according to IESB's interview with David S. Goyer, all the DC properties at Warner Brothers have been put on hold for the time being. (Well, what about Jonah Hex and GL? Maybe he means the DC properties he himself was involved in.)

Watch the interview here.

He said "A lot of" not "all"

I doubt Hex and GL are being held considering how far they have gotten in pre-production

The next three DC/Vertigo films could well be:

Jonah Hex - scheduled to start filming in April with Jimmy Hayward directing and Josh Brolin and John Malkovich starring.

Green Lantern - Martin Campbell is in negotiations to direct with an eye to fast tracking the film to lens this year for a summer 2010 release.

The Losers - this would be an adaptation of the Vertigo series rather than the older comics set during WW II. Sylvain White is attached to direct and actor Jeremy Renner has said this might be the film he makes next this year. So casting could well be ongoing behind the scenes.

I thought I'd put up a more detailed update of where things stand with DC/Vertigo productions that are in development. If there have been any reports of director, producer or screenwriter attachments that I've missed out please let me know and I'll edit them in.

Still glad they stopped Zatanna...I was happy to see it when it was announced...then cried when I heard what kind of abomination the film would be...*shudders*...:wow:

So Basically every character has had a film announced...but are stuck in development hell...

They have a release date for two of them now:

  • Green Lantern: December 17, 2010
  • Jonah Hex: August 6th, 201o
And I think we'll know soon the release date for Losers, too.

Adam Strange (the film imagined a teenage version of the character).
They don't need to make him a teenager. He's fine as an adult. Doing that will also think he's a rip-off of Sci-Fi's Flash Gordon series. And that is not a good thing for any new film to be connected to in the public's mind.

Jonah Hex has an awesome cast, and The Losers is shaping up really nicely, too. Can't wait to see who winds up in GL :)

Can't wait for GL...

...but I still wish TT was happening soon, if at all...

I kinda like that compared to Marvel, DC, is not greenlighting everything at once. It seems like this is the best way to ensure quality. I would definitely say when Green Lantern is a hit that Flash, Wonder Woman, and Superman will all be given a go. I think the key is to babysit them so they can work all the separate movies into a Justice League movie similar to Avengers. I also think that tying the current incarnation of Batman into Justice League would not be that hard.

Also I really would love another Constantine. It is one of my favorites.

Ok I understand what your saying about Dc not green lighting everything at once, but come on. No Wonder Woman, no Flash, no Aquaman, no Green Arrow? They could have at least greenlit and probaly released those in the last 10 yrs

Also Nolan said himself his Batman doesnt work with other heroes, so lets leave it at that

I think they could have, but I am just hoping the whole great things come to those who wait thing is in order here. I would flip out for a Green Arrow movie. If there is a comic movie I want most in the world it is that. I just would prefer they take time than throwing stuff together to make money. I do wish they'd put more into developing these. They dont have to start right away but ya know get scripts locked in and such, that would be nice.

I know what Nolan said but after he's done does that matter? If movie goers get a third Batman they wont like it. Movie goers like the Batman they have in Bale, and while I am certain Bale wouldn't return after a third Bats flick, It would only be smart of WB and DC to use the established character. Essentially it would be like rebooting the image of Batman, AGAIN. I like to think of it being like Iron Man style. "You think you're the only one of your kind" kinda thing. I mean in Iron Man we never hear of any other super heroes. I know we will in Iron Man 2, but I dont see why it can't be the same. Frankly I think after Nolan is gone, WB and DC will see it the same way.

Thanks for clearing that up. It seems that some outlets reported what he'd said incorrectly.
