The Jonah hex release date was changed from August to June 18th 2010

I've now edited in the new release date for Jonah Hex.

Very interesting read. The part that stuck out most to me was this section:

And WB toppers Alan Horn and Jeff Robinov would like the studio and DC to closely develop superhero pics together, rather than hand off projects to individual producers. They're also aiming for each division at the studio to time the release of everything --from licensed merchandise like T-shirts and action figures to exclusive DVDs, videogames and digital content -- to when a pic gets released in order to build up the tentpole's franchise potential.

I'm hoping this means that the heads at WB have noted Marvel's strategy for releasing and connecting films, and is trying to take a cue from that. I would love nothing more than a connected universe of DC live-action films.

Also, did I read that there is a Green Lantern video game in development? Awesome.

Warner Bros. Animation Planning Animated Shorts Series Based On DC Comics Characters

July 08, 2009 by James Harvey

While Warner Bros. Animation currently has no comment, The World's Finest can confirm that the animation studio is producing a series of animated shorts based on DC Comics characters, including Jonah Hex and more.

The first in a series of animated shorts based on DC Comics characters, produced by Warner Bros. Animation, is expected to appear within the first half of 2010, with more appearing during the year. The DC Comics character Jonah Hex will be featured in the first animated short, written by Joe R. Lansdale, slated to appear on an upcoming DC Universe Animated Original Movie DVD/Blu-ray release. The animated shorts will also tentatively spotlight other DC Comics characters and be similar in tone to the DC Universe Animated Original Movie titles. Multiple animated shorts are currently in production. Please note that schedule and content details are subject to change. Expect an official comment and announcement from Warner Bros. Animation in the future.

Warner Bros. Animation currently has seven different direct-to-video animated feature projects in different stages of production, with the majority of these projects headlining characters from DC Comics. Expect more announcements soon.

Stay tuned for further updates.

News recently hit the internet stating that Sony's Columbia Pictures plans to make a movie called, "Supermax". It is a movie which bears a similar title and plot to David Goyer's planned Green Arrow movie. If this news is in fact true, what could this mean for the Emerald Archer's chances of coming to the big screen? Will Columbia Pictures' movie halt WB's plans of making their must anticipated (and highly debated) Green Arrow movie?

nope. in fact, it'll force WB to either green light it or come up with a new idea.

nope. in fact, it'll force WB to either green light it or come up with a new idea.

If that is the case, I believe that WB is going to need to come up with a new idea, because it has been reported that Sony's Columbia Pictures wants to start shooting "Supermax" in early 2010. I don't think that gives WB nearly enough time to have their movie ready to be released first, considering they don't even have a finished script.

Perhaps they could do an origin movie...?

@ The latest update

I thought Christian Bale was confirmed to be signed on for 3 Batman films? You've not got him listed as cast, have I missed some important news?

Or maybe you left it out because it's common knowledge? :P

I'm in awe that Hollywood just can't seem to get a Superman film right. It's not hard really!!! He's an easy character to bring to the big screen if you have someone who actually KNOWS the character.

I wish I could have a stab at writing the script. I have a great story that involves Lex and Brainiac somewhat (kind of) working together. Meanwhile Superman and Captain Atom go from being allies to enemies as they both share different views on what to do with Brainiac tech.

sigh...it would have been EPIC. I would have written a Superman more true to the comic, not the squishy, softty Superman like in the last film. Superman has a kind heart yes. But he's strong, he's deteremined.

He gets ANGRY and he can be very stern. Superman does have a darker side...not Batman dark, but dark enough. Hollywood just doesn't show that. They try to make him perfect and he's not. He's as flawed as any human.

Flawed? Really? Heck, I thought the opposite. They even had the whole Jesus metaphor thing going on.

I was at a Kevin Smith Q&A the other day and he said he was talking to Adam Brody about JLA film. Brody said the script was awesome. He compared it to something, maybe it was Iron Man.

The reason Superman movies don't usually work is because the only villain that could give Big Blue any real conflict would be Lex Luthor, who's overdone by now, Doomsday, and they aren't gonna actually kill off Supes, or Darkseid, and they don't have the time to explain his origins and the Fourth World. Superman's villains suck, save for Toyman, Brainiac, and Zod, but can't fill in a two hour movie. Brainiac might, tho to put that in a realm any where near Nolan's, it wouldn't be as good. Plus, Brainiacs motives suck! If he is to absorb all the knowledge in the universe, why doesn't he go to other planets, get more info, and come back and skull f**k the Earth in about three seconds? If a Superman movie is to work, they either have to find a way to make one of his villains not stupid, or introduce him solely in a JLA movie where there is a larger threat.

Too bad we'll probably never see it. WB seems like they're focusing on small properties and individual heroes for now. Sigh.

seriously, i wouldn't mind if Brody got the role as The Flash in the solo film.

brody as wally seemed to be the only WIN casting in that project

I hope DC puts some thought into another Swamp Thing, I may be in the minority but, a horror themed superhero has potential. This is a character that can be written dark.

Wonder Woman could work and could be EPIC.

Nothing has been done with this character onscreen in forever. I dont understand why DC isnt doing anything with her.

If I worked at WB, Id have Dini work out a script.
