DC June 2010 Solicitations

I think Winick is ruining everything I hold dear.

If I had anything left to hold dear after Johns had gotten through with things, James Robinson would be ruining them.

I'm pretty psyched for Winick's comeback. His Outsiders went downhill quick, and his Green Arrow run was more miss than hit, but I liked his Batman run a lot, and he's pretty funny, so his upcoming stuff should be good.

Such as how he recently hospitalised the entire Power Company? I suppose we should be grateful he didn't have the villains skin them and make them into rugs

I actually think his Outsiders run is the best thing he's written at DC. And while he's not a favourite of mine I will be interested to see what he's got cooked up as well.

I never read the Power Company. I couldn't get past the silly name.

I've just been dropping everything at DC that bugs me or loses my interest. It's a simple, elegant solution. I'm down to Streets of Gotham (probably dropping that after the Manhunter backups end in June), REBELS, Secret Six, and Green Lantern Corps now. I'm probably only picking up Birds of Prey and Emerald Warriors in the near future. Maybe I'll try an issue or two of Teen Titans when Superboy comes back.

Read Widening Gyre. Only 6 issues, and may be the best thing coming out right now.

Full solicits are up.

-Now, the big thing that caught my eye, but I'm sure won't matter in the least to anyone else here, is a new Tom Strong mini. Of course, not written by Moore, though. That's not a strange thing by any means, since he let other writers do it in the past (like Brubaker and Johns). Of course, he kind of ended it with that final issue. I know this will probably be set before that or something, but still kind of torn on it, since I try to respect the creator as much as the creation. Of course, Sprouse is officially considered a co-creator of the character. I don't know, I probably will get it. Though, I'm not sure on my expectations of it. Most of the Tom Strong non-Moore written issues weren't nearly as good. I wonder if they'll publish it with the WildStrom logo or the ABC one?

-Superman #700 and Wonder Woman #600 are maybes for me. I guess they are the official start of JMS' runs, which I will probably be checking out, but I'm not sure on these anniversary issues ($4.99 for a bunch of different stories could be hit or miss).

-I'm pretty interested in the Madame Xanadu arc starting this month. I'm going to miss Hadley for these six months, but I'm always interested in seeing what new artists bring to the table. Plus, Wagner described it as having a 'Twilight Zone' feeling, so that makes me even more interested.

-iZombie, instead of I, Zombie? Wonder if that's a permanent title change or if it's only meant as a one time reference. Eh, whatever, still looking forward to it.

-The first issue of Sparta, USA was pretty cool. I thought I knew what the series was about from the solicitations, but of course I had no ****ing clue what really to expect. I'm hoping we see some yetis sooner rather than later.

-Skipping the Beyond mini. It's a shame, because I love that series, and that character. However, Beechen cancels out love. I will, however, probably check out the Batman/Superman Annual set in that time period, despite the price.

-Winick on Power Girl...

-Detective Comics is a pretty big maybe. O'Neil rarely disappoints, so I might pick that issue up despite principles. My interest is also peaked at the little bit about Batwoman returning. Maybe Rucka and Williams are finishing their run there instead of the Batwoman mini/ongoing, certainly a strong possibly.

-Green Arrow #1? Did they restart the book? Didn't it only get to 30 issues or something? I know his status quo changed with Cry for Justice, but does a status quo change really need a new number 1. I guess so.

-Still probably going to check out Lost Generation and Birds of Prey. Pretty interested in both of those. I have more faith in Birds since Simone did a good job before (though we're seen that's no guarantee of anything), and mostly interested in JLI because of some of the characters, and general interest in that time period of the JL (Yeah, I'm all about the big Morrison JLA like everyone else, but I still found JLI interesting in their own right). My main concern is that this book isn't looking very fun or light like the JLI series tended to be. We'll see, I guess. Either way, it's got to be better than whatever the JLA is like right now.

-I've been enjoying the book and all, but I can't keep wondering in the back of my head with every issue when Gotham City Sirens is going to get the axe. Not sure how well it actually sells or anything, though, maybe it's okay. I liked the series even more than I was expecting despite many people dismissing it before it got out of the gate (and even I'll admit, I wasn't totally sure how good it would turn out despite Dini at the helm).

-I've enjoyed the first three issues of Joe the Barbarian, but it seems to be one of those books that everyone loves and claims to be the advancement of the genre, and I just don't feel on that level. Of course, five more issues to go, so maybe I'll 'turn', but honestly...well, never mind, probably shouldn't say that, but I can't help but feel it's getting slightly overblown. Still good, I'll try not to sound too negative on it, it's been an enjoyable enough read thus far

I would so very much like to know which fool at DC let that idiot Geoff Johns work on Wonder Woman 600. Bad enough Dullest Night, his fanboy wet dream project has been infecting the DCU, but now I have to put up with one of DC's worst writers once again tarnishing my beloved Wonder Woman.

I've been greatly enjoying Madame Xanadu so far, so I will definitely be checking this out.

Well, if even James Robinson can write something as poor as Cry For Justice, by that logic perhaps even a writer as bad as Adam Beechen can create a good story?

Unlikely I know, but I'll at least buy the first issue of the Beyond mini to see if my vain hope will be rewarded

While it will be a pleasure to have Batwoman back in Tec soon (And it will give me a reason to buy it again) if DC have cancelled her ongoing well...

As the always attention grabbing Mr Christian Bale might say, me and them? We are ****ing done proffessionally. If it's cancelled, I am gone

They're desperately hoping we'll forget that GA/BC ever happened, I'm sure

I'll definitely be purchasing these two titles. Simone is one of the best writers employed at DC currently and Lost Generation looks like it will be fun. :yay:

Green Arrow/Black Canary has been nothing but 29 straight issues of boring dullness and 2 (probably 3) issues of goodness but everyone will think it's bad due to the taint of Cry for Justice.

Yeah, I say relaunch the thing and start a new.

Aren't they restarting it so that they can sink it even further into the taint of Cry for Justice?

So, it has a bad start and that's reason enough for a relaunch? We going to start relaunching ongoings for bad arcs next? I don't know, I don't read the book or anything myself, so it doesn't matter to me, just something that seemed odd and caught my eye. Nowadays relaunches are as common as they come, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised even if it's a fairly well known character

Maybe I am showing how little I know about DC, but it seems as if since Arsenal lost his arm ("I can't feel my fingers") a few months ago, every cover I see with him on it still shows him with his stump, and the stump is bleeding. It's unintentionally hilarious because it screams of angst. Look, in real life this is a rough injury, but most people would have at least attached a band-aid to stop the bleeding. In DCU, Speedy only served for half his career alongside Cyborg, who only lost, what, 50% of his body? And he's crying over an arm? Slap on a cybernetic already and stop whining, Red Arrow.

It reminds me of SPIDER-WOMAN #1, where Jessica Drew whines so much it makes you believe she doesn't realize that plenty of people out there have far worse lives, and aren't gifted with super-model bodies and super powers.

The cyborg arm really makes no sense. It should take all of a day for either Cadmus or S.T.A.R Labs to simply make Roy a new arm of flesh and blood.

That, too.

It just seems funny to me that on covers he's always just got a bleeding stump there. Least wrap it up or something. It'll get infected!

(I'd suggest Speedy take some pain killers, but he does have some addictive demons in the past, so maybe not the best idea. ;) )
