If I had anything left to hold dear after Johns had gotten through with things, James Robinson would be ruining them.
I'm pretty psyched for Winick's comeback. His Outsiders went downhill quick, and his Green Arrow run was more miss than hit, but I liked his Batman run a lot, and he's pretty funny, so his upcoming stuff should be good.
I never read the Power Company. I couldn't get past the silly name.
Read Widening Gyre. Only 6 issues, and may be the best thing coming out right now.
-Superman #700 and Wonder Woman #600 are maybes for me. I guess they are the official start of JMS' runs, which I will probably be checking out, but I'm not sure on these anniversary issues ($4.99 for a bunch of different stories could be hit or miss).
-I'm pretty interested in the Madame Xanadu arc starting this month. I'm going to miss Hadley for these six months, but I'm always interested in seeing what new artists bring to the table. Plus, Wagner described it as having a 'Twilight Zone' feeling, so that makes me even more interested.
-Skipping the Beyond mini. It's a shame, because I love that series, and that character. However, Beechen cancels out love. I will, however, probably check out the Batman/Superman Annual set in that time period, despite the price.
-Detective Comics is a pretty big maybe. O'Neil rarely disappoints, so I might pick that issue up despite principles. My interest is also peaked at the little bit about Batwoman returning. Maybe Rucka and Williams are finishing their run there instead of the Batwoman mini/ongoing, certainly a strong possibly.
-Green Arrow #1? Did they restart the book? Didn't it only get to 30 issues or something? I know his status quo changed with Cry for Justice, but does a status quo change really need a new number 1. I guess so.
-Still probably going to check out Lost Generation and Birds of Prey. Pretty interested in both of those. I have more faith in Birds since Simone did a good job before (though we're seen that's no guarantee of anything), and mostly interested in JLI because of some of the characters, and general interest in that time period of the JL (Yeah, I'm all about the big Morrison JLA like everyone else, but I still found JLI interesting in their own right). My main concern is that this book isn't looking very fun or light like the JLI series tended to be. We'll see, I guess. Either way, it's got to be better than whatever the JLA is like right now.
Aren't they restarting it so that they can sink it even further into the taint of Cry for Justice?
Objection your honour. The best things coming out right now are Secret Six and Greg Rucka's Detective Comics
Green Arrow/Black Canary has been nothing but 29 straight issues of boring dullness and 2 (probably 3) issues of goodness but everyone will think it's bad due to the taint of Cry for Justice.
Yeah, I say relaunch the thing and start a new.
Both are good, but neither gives me satisfaction of Widening Gyre.
Maybe I am showing how little I know about DC, but it seems as if since Arsenal lost his arm ("I can't feel my fingers") a few months ago, every cover I see with him on it still shows him with his stump, and the stump is bleeding. It's unintentionally hilarious because it screams of angst. Look, in real life this is a rough injury, but most people would have at least attached a band-aid to stop the bleeding. In DCU, Speedy only served for half his career alongside Cyborg, who only lost, what, 50% of his body? And he's crying over an arm? Slap on a cybernetic already and stop whining, Red Arrow.
It reminds me of SPIDER-WOMAN #1, where Jessica Drew whines so much it makes you believe she doesn't realize that plenty of people out there have far worse lives, and aren't gifted with super-model bodies and super powers.
The cyborg arm really makes no sense. It should take all of a day for either Cadmus or S.T.A.R Labs to simply make Roy a new arm of flesh and blood.
