Yup. Which is why the endgame of DCUO got extremely tedious for me and I lost interest after getting like 3 pieces of Tier 1 armor. With the DLC there are more duos and what not so you can earn more per day then you could before, but it's still a chore.
Marks of Triumph although easy to get as its T1 is probably hte most boring to get..the t1 duos give you anywhere from 3-4 a piece..i think two of them give out 4 the rest is 3... and then you have to do the challenges everyday..good luck with the penguin one id just avoid that til you have full t2 armor.... it makes it far less frustrating...and going in there not in dps stance will make you insane... that said once you get enough CR to start t1 alerts it makes getting the marks easier..however its still harder to get that armor then getting Marks of Distinction.... I finished my T2 set (Marks of Distinction) before i ever finished one set of T1 armor...
A couple a weeks ago I finally got a PS3 after tiring of my 360 and I had pre-planned to get DC Universe Online first thing. I'm loving it so much I decided to get Legendary for a month!
advice for those starting out..once you hit level 30 try to get in with a league or get a group of friends that you run with regularly.... pick a stance. if you pick a support role make sure when you buy your gear... buy that specific gear like controller/healer/tank. But you are going to want a decent set of dps gear on the back burner for those times when you are going to solo or even if people ask you to help but dont need your specific role you have a dps set ready to go as well...
for people who choose a support role (tank/healer/controller/) t2 and below go to south gotham and run that atleast once a day for the marks of distinction and as many as you can for the gear drops on sub avatar... this is very good dps gear i think its about t1.5 in stats. (those who arent bothering with a support role and are purely going the dps route.. this is also good gear for that between t1 and t2 set ... but once you get t2 this gear is pretty much useless for those who are gearing purely as a dps...
dont ever bother with novice raids... they are not that much easier and the difference between the amount of marks you get is ridiculous... for novice i think you get 4 or 5 maybe in each raid... but for the normal or hard modes not sure what they call it...... you mostly get 10 marks... raids that give 10 marks are... Khandaq/Outer Batcave/ Inner Batcave (for marks of distinction) Sub construct i believe gives only 3 maybe 4 i could be wrong ive only ran that twice.... Fortress of Solitude 1 and 2 give 10 marks of krypton. FOS 3 gives 3 marks of krypton.
as far as need and greed....when gear drops and you are in a duo or group or raid... generally people will say only need on your specific role meaning if you are a support role only need on gear specific to that role... if you are dps dont need on the other gear (example if you pic electric you can potentiall need on healer gear or dps gear but if you are running as a dps in that instance or mission... healers will be very angry if you need on healer gear) this is not NOT!! a game rule this is a rule created by the dcuo player community... you cant not CAN NOT get banned or suspended for needing on the gear... so if someone tries to tell you they are going to report you ..do not fret... it will go no where for them...
however what may happen is if you develop a reputation for "ninja looting" as they call it.. people will refuse to play with you... so if you get added to a raid and someone says hey kick him he needs on everything he can..you will probably get kicked.. ive seen it before.... its up to you to decide if getting the gear is worth getting the label of a "ninja looter"
personally i just need on what drops in the role that im rolling on.... however i dont get upset or bent out of shape if someone needs on something that "should have been mine" as some would say.. however at that point..you better believe im needing on everything ...once i no its good for the goose its good for the gander...
best thing to do is if you are in a league..find out league rules on looting.... if you are pugging ask them how they plan on dealing with loot... do this before a mission begins... that way everyone knows whats up... if you prefer to need on everything just flat out say.. hey guys im letting you know now..i need on everything .....they might not like it and they might kick you... or they might not care ...but atleast you are being upfront..
loot to not second guess need .... anything thats iconic drop example.... mister freezes back piece/robins utility belt/ banes belt/ if something like this drops its usually purple gear and is specific to an iconic character of dcu anyone can need no one will call you a ninja..and if they do its just cause they feel they are the most important person in the game.. dont second guess it ...just need on it...
for modding..dont bother modding t1 gear you wont have it long enough to worry about it needing a mod and the levels you are doing with it.. dont require mods.. .... you want to mod t2 gear cause it will help you a great deal in the fortress of soilitude raids...
Skill Points... the more the better... work on your feats as much as you can..when you are first starting out there are SO MANY that can be finished quickly and you can get to 65 fairly quick i went from 25 to 65 in a month....
go to Deeds in the menu and click on feats.. see whats possible for that day and work on it... duo speed feats/alert speed feats/ races/ solo feats/ and the briefings and the investigation feats/ are really easy to get...
when it comes to speed feats and solo feats (meaning redoing all your pre level 30 missions) are really easy if you group up and bring someone with you who is highly geared ... if you are having trouble completing something ...find out the name of the feat and google it more than likely someone else had trouble on it too and youll get directed to a forum where others helped them/ youtube helps too
i know a lot of you probably already know most of what i just typed and i know it was long winded.... but some people who are starting out this could be their first MMORPG as it was mine..and i was completely lost and had no idea what i was doing... so i try to explain everything as if youve never played an mmorpg before...
my character right now is full t3.5 dps and t3.5 tank i use Ice as my power (for now but will be changing to Electric in a few days where ill only be dps)
i run on the us ps3 server I would be happy to help anyone who needs it so you know though ill probably role as dps for most of the t2 or t1 missions as it will make themissions quicker... in game name is Gallant Guardsman before adding me though atleast send me a message on here privately letting me know cause i ignore tells for the most part unless i recognize the name...
ill be running gates a lot this week btw so if you message me and need help and i dont respond really fast im probably running gates but i will message you back eventually and see whats up...
have fun all
