DC's Metropolis

This just sounds stupid to me. Yet another prequel series without the actual character people want to see.

Disney will probably be doing live action Star Wars and Marvel series with major characters going forward. WB are feeding us this ****.

Why are they so precious about major characters? It’s not like they’re being portrayed well on the big screen.

Just. Do. A. Superman. Show. You. Cretins.

What's with all these prequels? First Gotham, then Krypton and now Metropolis! How long until we get Themyscira before Diana or Atlantis before Arthur lol

At this point it’s whatever too me. As long as it’s good I don’t care. Still this show does feel pointless I have to admit.

Actually I wouldn't mind those. ;)

I like Gotham (it's more of an Elseworlds story now than an actual prequel), so blame me I guess. Krypton isn't too bad an idea for a prequel show either.

But yeah, I don't get this either.

Yeah, I'm really enjoying Gotham. How well they execute these shows is the key. Gotham really gave a chance for the villains to steal the limelight.

I'm all for more Lois Lane, but this just seems weird to me. Plus, the streaming service won't last if THIS is what they are thinking of pumping out.

Enough with prequels... Smallville, Krypton, Metropolis. Give us a SUPERMAN show. Live action, animated, anything.

with uncertiny about what will happen with dceu superman why not do a superman show. audences are smart enough to figure out it wouldn't be connected to it. superman on supergirl got raves so why not. i mean why do show about lois and lex before clark/superman show up in metropalis.

while the word is gotham could go eather way-renewel or cancalation it doesn't fill me with confidence that 2 of gotham's key producers working on this including the gotham showrunner.

At least Gotham has Bruce Wayne in it, even if he isn't Batman. Will Clark Kent only appear in Metropolis's final season?

Keeping Superman out of the show is just a way to save money.

You can have a Lois Lane investigative show without the need of Superman at all. Crime procedural drama's are shown every damn year.

Now that I’m thinking about it I’m down for another Lex descent into evil show.

What in the...

I swear, 9 times out of 10 when DC/WB makes some announcement about a new movie or TV show, they might as well just be holding up a sign that says, "We have no idea what we're doing."

Sounds like an ok idea to me.

Would be cool if Metropolis was made to look like a city "The Man of Tomorrow" would eventually hang around in rather than just a regular city.

The goods news about this is it's the last of the towns/planets that Clark/Kal-El lived which can be made into a tv show. Well, I guess I don't know where Clark went to college...

Sure, although I don't generally watch the more standard police procedurals, myself.

Personally, I'm not looking for a Superman series, because we've been down that road before, but that doesn't mean I'm looking for a "Superman without Superman" series. I mean, I could imagine the show happening to look especially well executed, but with the number of TV options out there, something like this doesn't grab my attention. Maybe the unused ideas I would be enthusiastic about are being reserved for movies, or maybe they're not done announcing shows, I don't know.

Yeah they really have to give a reason why Metropolis and not any other city in DC”s America or any city in the world why Superman decides to call it home.

And his gap year after college? :woot:

Well, I don't think they have to give much reason outside of it being one of many famous cities around the world and it has the #1 newspaper in the world. But, I think it would be cool to see Metropolis depicted as a somewhat more futuristic place rather than a modern one. That's something we don't really get to see much.

As for the story, anyone creative enough can come up with an interesting and entertaining one that has little-to-nothing to do with Superman. Lois investigating stuff, Lex coming into/gain more power, etc.

Based on my viewing experiences of these types of prequel shows is the possible problems of running out of steam, running out of ideas, not having an end goal, having an end goal but have to stretch it out, etc.

I think it's a great idea. Lois Lane and Lex Luthor are iconic and intriguing characters all on their own, and seeing them develop and what Metropolis is like before Superman gives people hope for a better tomorrow has a lot of potential. It was one of the strongest aspects of Smallville, to see those two evolve, and Gwenda Bond's successful young adult novel series about Lois Lane (Fallout, Double Down, Triple Threat) also explored young Lois as she encountered young Lex Luthor while working as a high school cub reporter for the Daily Planet and exposing evil businessmen, politicians, and scientists.

Especially in today's world where journalism is so important to exposing corruption and wrongdoing in the world, a story like this could be very timely. Plus, if Lois has a leading role, and she is potentially played by an actress of color, then it could be meaningful representation. Not to mention, Lois's wit and Lex's cunning can be a lot of fun to watch.

I'm excited.

Krypton... Metropolis... both tv shows that do not employ Clark Kent/Superman?

I mean is WB simply trying to work only on the supporting casts and develop them into actual standalone characters?

I wonder what that will gain them? Because then, once Superman goes back into the fold... those characters will be relegated to secondary supporting casts, if that.

It's either that or CW/WB wants to rebuild up a thirst for Supe's stories--like if there isn't one already.

So many questions on the path being laid forward.

Or maybe they just think they're interesting, and there are writers who are interested in working with those characters.
