Comics Deadpool Question/Discussion

So, I was watching the Mask last night, loving it, and was trying to tell my girlfriend how this is kind of like what Deadpool is, where it would be a serious movie/scene, but Deadpool would crack jokes and popculture jokes/quotes, and break the fourth wall and such, and everyone around him was like "uh....ok?" and then it hit me...

Is it possible that Deadpool is partly based off of the Mask comic?

Deadpool was created two years after The Mask, but I doubt 'Pool was based off of the green maniac. He was created as a rip off of Deathstroke, even taking the name Wade Wilson (Slade Wilson), but he eventually evolved through the years as the fourth-wall breakin', joke crackin', crazy merc we all love.

that doesnt change much though. If he didn't become the comic-type til later on, maybe that's when the idea came up.
