Earlier today came official word about an “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” sequel, confirming what Hugh Jackman had already told MTV News about his plans for a follow-up to this weekend’s blockbuster. Now, MTV News has received official word that there is also a “Deadpool” solo movie in active development, with “Wolverine” actor Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as Wade Wilson, Marvel’s mutant assassin.
According to a source close to Fox, the “Deadpool” spin-off film will be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel, and will be “a complete exploration of this unique character — his origins, his emergence as the Merc with the Mouth.” The studio is currently seeking writers for the project.
While Reynolds has already shared some half-joking ideas for what he’d like to see in a “Deadpool” solo movie,
one of the post-credits scenes in “Wolverine” offered the first official clue that such a project was being considered.
Prior to that, however, there was no shortage of filmmakers and comic creators chiming in to voice their support for such a spin-off, including Reynolds himself, as well as Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld and Fox Chairman Tom Rothman.
A project more than five years in the making, the “Deadpool” movie will feature Reynolds in the role many fans are calling the best supporting role in “Wolverine” — but now the question is likely to be: What “Deadpool” story will the movie tell?

WOOHOO! What are some things and characters you guys want in the Deadpool spin-off? Personally, I'd like to see Weasel and Six Pack (mainly just for Domino). And maybe they can shy away from the over-seriousness of the other X-Men movies...without making it campy, of course.

at the rate this movie is going development-wise, it looks like ryan reynolds might move on. if that happens, who should be cast as deadpool? i'm thinking that we should maybe go with a notable voice actor, and just have a stunt guy in the suit, isn't that what they did with v in v for vendetta (except instead of a voice actor, we got the awesomness of hugo weaving).

If Green Lantern flops (it's looking like it) maybe Reynolds can finally start rebuilding his career as the Merc with a Mouth.

If Reynolds DID move on (God forbid), I think someone to think about replacing would Glenn Howerton. Dennis Reynolds on It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

Id like Scott Adkins to Replace him I think he can do it

Considering that Ryan is the driving force behind a Deadpool movie and he's pretty much the reason it's getting made... He's even a producer on the movie. If he drops out. It could be even longer until we see a Deadpool movie.
Ryan has atleast one more movie to finish before a Deadpool movie. A Deadpool movie with Ryan is years of anyway. Just chill guys. I'd rather have a Deadpool movie with Ryan then with anyone else. I don't want a movie for the sake of having a Deadpool movie.

and the script is tailored after Ryan... I have faith in Ryan. I think and hope he wants to do it.

Agreed! Besides, i liked him as Wade. I'd be quite sad to see anyone else play him.

I'm glad its happening. He needs to be redeemed after Wolverine.

I'll wait for the press junket for Green Lantern, so I can hear that from Ryan himself.

Well Reynolds did say he would only do one of those movies but...Im still saying Fox probably doesnt want to release it till 2013. 2012 is already too crowded and they have The Wolverine being released then. So maybe that will allow Rodriguez to Direct. News or some sort of confirmation would be nice now. This flick will happen eventually. This is Reynolds movie and hes been involved a very long time Pre XMOW, unless someone is trying to mess with script I dont see him dropping the project and character he cares about so much.

i don't see ryan reynolds dropping out, but i do see fox moving forward without him if he has too busy a schedule. im not jumping on the FOX hate wagon, but they do have a business to run, so them moving ahead without him wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility.

In brightest day....in blackest night...there seems to be..no Deadpool movie in sight. :(

Yeah, there hasn't been any news on that in ages. You can hardly blame the people involved for not signing on or moving on if this thing keeps moving at a snails pace.

I'm really aggravated that its been 6 years since Sin City premiered and we still haven't gotten a sequel (its gonna end up being 7 since Rodriguez is gonna do Spy Kids 4 next). But Frank Miller's incessant meddling that keeps stalling Sin City 2 might be a blessing in disguise for Deadpool, because something tells me its gonna be Rodriguez's next film after Spy Kids 4.

Rodriguez did say he would have time to do it if they waited another year. Hopefully Reynolds will shed some light on the subject when hes doing all those interviews for Green Lantern in a few months.

I don't know what the hell Ryan Reynolds is doing playing Hal Jordan (besides making money).

I think Deadpool can be a great film. B movie, but great B movie at that. Problem is, its designed to fit the Reynolds/Rodriguez formula.

I just don't see any other actor/director that can do this right. If the two can get together after Spy Kids 4 and RIPD I see us getting a delicious Deadpool movie in the spring of 2013 :yay:

Yeah Reynolds is definitely essential to the movie. I was disappointed he was cast as Hal Jordan just cause that can/has interfered with Deadpools development. I can see other directors besides Rodriguez doing a good job but out of the other directors mentioned he is by far the best choice. If Vaughn wasnt doing First Class I think he could have made a good Deadpool movie, he handled humor and violence awesome in Kick-Ass.

Blame Fox for not doing anything.

I'm guessing it's only a matter of time until the re-work the song 'Blame Canada' to 'Blame Fox'. lol

Well apparently he's still willing to do it, he just doesn't know how it will all fit in. Maybe if they worked it into his schedule that might make the timing right for Rodriquez. Who knows.

All I care about is this. They use the script. They get Reynolds. They hire any director except for Brett Ratner, Paul Anderson.....anyone else is fine.

Even Michael Bay.

Has there been any news at all on the Deadpool front?

......IF tarantino could pull a Kill Bill with Deadpool that would be awesom lol...I remember a few of us preferring that before Origins came out......that's still my dream as far as a Deadpool film...Directed by Tarantino...

Currently I hope Rodriquez can somehow work it into schedule, and Ryan can somehow can at least give some input on the film and current state or situation of the film...

& Celtic...I would take Michael Bay...heck...I'd take the Brothers Strause, at least over Ratner and Anderson...(and this coming from a guy who did enjoy X3 and the RE films)...sad
