Are you even sure FOX would want to give the film a low budget and a R rating?

Here they mention a budget of $50 million and say it's def lower budget. The hard R rating is also mentioned.

...and from the interview I posted near the top of the page back.
"We have a great star in Ryan Reynolds, who is attached and was instrumental in helping us write the script, we have a great director in Tim Miller, who is also attached, and created a great 3-minute test scene to show the studio he had what it took to make the movie and we have a budget. All those things are in place, so it's just a matter of convincing Fox to move forward on it. I think they're trying to come to grips with the idea it's a hard R-rated script and trying to figure out a way to fit it into their jigsaw puzzle of X-Men movies."
So I assume that is the budget it's been given and shooting for if greenlit.

Low budget or not. Film-making is still a business and its very important for businessmen/investors to get their money back when they use their money to make these movies. Since they also have the movie rights to X-Men, they are gonna focus first on their more marketable property. X-Men films are more bankable than a Deadpool movie. They aren't doing these films just to please the fans, they are releasing these films to earn money.

Deadpool already appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine so its not meaningless.

According to you barely anyone saw Origins so know one will remember DP anyway.

And with a rated R film, its much more riskier because the kids with their parents are probably not going to see it in theaters and it could lead to lower ticket sales.

Big deal, it'll have one-third the budget so it evens out.

Its funny how you always assume things when it comes to me just to prove your argument. If I remember you were the poster who said that I haven't seen any films from Zack Snyder when I criticized about Zack Synder and you also said that I had no idea about Viper when I said I was okay with her having blonde hair. And now this and me speaking for the general audience? I'm not gonna have it anymore if you keeping doing that just because we don't agree on something. You always attack me with your false assumptions just to prove that you're right. We can have these arguments about these movies for pages, but don't attack me.

Whether people remember Deadpool in Origins or not, it is still Deadpool.

The general audience aren't more interested with spin-offs/prequels.

I'll wait while you ask everyone individually. 85% should do it. See you in a few years.

So a Deadpool movie is destined to fail, because he's a new character no one has heard of, except he's not a new character because he appeared in Origins, which failed so it doesn't matter if they remember him or not.

Do you even listen to yourself?

One way might be to remove Colossus from the story, remove the references to X-Men Origins: Wolverine and just make it as a standalone.

I don't even think Colossus would fit in a Deadpool movie.

I really liked the fact that Colossus showed up, sort of randomly. Gave it the feeling that this was the marvel universe where any character could show up at any time. And Colossus is less obvious.

So you'd be fine with Deadpool ending the film series if it bombs at the box-office? Well I really hope now that they don't make a Deadpool movie, its probably gonna perform like Elektra and I think it won't happen anymore since FOX are busy with Fantastic Four and Days of Future Past. Once Days of Future Past is released next year, FOX would want to keep the momentum that they will get from DOFP.

The general audience aren't more interested with spin-offs/prequels. Its only the fans/comic-book fans who think any film adaptation could be a success.

If it was entirely standalone it wouldn't affect the main series. And if it was a good film accurate to the character, then it wouldn't damage the reputation of the franchise as a whole.

Warner Bros made three standalone, self-contained Batman movies. And also a standalone Green Lantern. And Guillermo del Toro is doing Justice League Dark or whatever it's called, in addition to the studio's plans for a Justice League perhaps following Man of Steel.

Deadpool doesn't really belong in the main series so the only way to do the movie is as a separate project.

I'm sure Marvel will be forced to do something similar when they get to some of their darker characters. They don't all have to keep referencing each other, they can exist in the same world with no crossover references, or they can just exist in another world altogether.

Yeah, it def works. Ultimately he has an important purpose being there especially by the end. It's really not a random cameo or anything. It seems almost the perfect role for Cable given him and Deadpools relationship in the comics. But since he is a character that's complicated and has not yet been introduced, Colossus is much easier to add in. [BLACKOUT]He is there to try and talk sense into Deadpool and give him a choice. It's a good moral contrast. And by the end Deadpool repsonds to Colossus's plea about Ajax in a pretty damn hilarious last moment. [/BLACKOUT] I don't think Colossus fans would complain, he is given much more to do then anything in the X-films and kicks some ass. He is in good character.

I think it's more, does that role need to be played by Colossus. No doubt it adds alot of humor in the matchup. Some of the funniest stuff is Deadpool insulting the X-Men. But it really could be anyone speaking on behalf of the better side of good. In a prefect world it would be Cable and Domino trying to stop him. But like you said it is a less obvious choice and probably a fun surprise for audiences. Even though it's not tieing into specifics of the X-Men films it seems some are worried that could hurt the film or X Franchise. Either way, it's such a different take on a comic film that I personally don't think it's anything to worry about. It will be looked at as a Deadpool film, not a representaiton of the main series.

Deadpool is one of my favorite x-characters he needs redemption after what they did too him in origins.

How old is Reynolds anyway? I feel like we've been waiting for him to do this for so long that he'll eventually just grow too old and/or out of shape for this, by the time it happens.

well, with prosthetics, his face won't really matter and he does seem like he stays in great shape so I guess he still a good ways to go before he's "too old"

36 aint old at all for the character. Hes got at least another 10 years if it gets released in the next few years before anyone starts to mention age. And like you said even then I don't think it would be a problem.

If they go with someone else the actor would probably be around Reynolds age.

It seems Reynolds was asked about DP again. It's much and such the same response as last time with more frustration at Fox for not pulling the finger out.

Sadly, as time goes by, it feels like this could be the greatest movie never seen. From what I've heard of the script (the leaked version) it was looking to be pretty cool.

Sucks how there seems to be just no progression at all. Or even confirmation that it's canceled. Fox just seem to be going back and forth with Reynolds and crew.

I know, it's so frustrating. Just commit to it or not already. They might as well just start a Kickstarter project and make a little film like the Thomas jane/Punisher one just for the hell of it,lol

They should totally just do a short movie. Then let it "accidentally" leak online. Generate some positive buzz.

Yeah, hopefully they will do that with the test footage. Saw a video of Rob Lifeld on youtube where he describes what's in the footage. To sum it up quick...
...guess it starts with Deadpool on a bench listening to "HollaBack girl". He then takes out his ear buds and notices the camera and breaks the 4th wall. The camera swoops to the top of a freeway were Deadpool jumps through an SUV inbetween two thugs. He stabs one and shoots the other, then basically it sounds like a big freeway fight scene were Deadpool is shooting, throwing Ninja stars and stabbing thugs left and right with some good old Deadpool humor and 4th wall breaking thrown in.
If Fox wants to impress, they should surprise and show the test footage at comic con like Marvel did with Ant Man.

Damn, I think I never finished reading it. Does someone still have a link to the script?
