Earlier tonight we got a chance to chat with producer Dean Devlin at the Saturn Awards where he was accepting the Dr. Donald A. Reed Founder’s Award.
Devlin and director Roland Emmerich have long discussed the possibility of a follow-up to Independence Day and tonight Devlin confirmed that there is a concept and at least a written treatment for not one but two sequels. He also discussed a pair of sequels to Stargate as well as staying at The Shining mansion while filming season 4 of Leverage and his Godzilla remake from the 90′s. Hit the jump for the video.

While specifics on the Independence Day sequel were scarce, Devlin was more forthcoming on the possible sequels to Stargate saying that the films would continue the story with the original film cast and focus on other places Stargates could go and other places Stargates might be on planet earth.

The video is on this link.

He's going to ruin Godzilla again?

And he's aware of the other dude doing his own Gojira?

I think you guys need to actually watch the video.

He says he's NOT involved in the new Godzilla. All he says is he dropped the ball with the script to the 1998 Godzilla and hopes the new film will please the fans in the way he couldn't.

What is he hoping to accomplish with a Stargate sequel that like twenty collective seasons of the show and it's spinoffs didn't?

Simple. Make some more cash. ;)

stargate was an entertaining blockbuster movie. always like aliens as gods ;)

I've seen them go back and forth on a Independence Day sequel practically since it was released and I'm not buying that until I see it actually in production.

Similarly with Stargate I just don't see them pulling it off. I don't think that will happen either given it's all but dead right now as a franchise. Maybe Devlin has some kind of rights to do a sequel but I'm doubtful it will pan out.

Well, like Star Trek, it's goning to come back in one form or another. Though, seems like he's kinda beating a dead horse here.

Maybe it will but does it have to be with Devlin? Can't we get Abrams to reboot that? Might be interesting.

WHY? Why remake a movie YOU, YOURSELF, ALREADY REMADE?! That makes NO GOD DAMN SENSE!!! I'm sorry, but this money-grubbing *****e needs a good ass-beating for this stupid idea ALONE, not counting trying to follow-up Stargate and ID4, two great movies that DON'T NEED SEQUELS!

Seriously, this dude sounds like the guy at the end of this video with the over-exaggerated *****ing and money-obsessed personality:

Except for the fact he only talks about how he screwed up the movie with his script and mentions nothing about wanting to remake it. He just says he wishes he could go back and do it over.

Riiiight...and I'm a friggen' Cylon. (That was sarcasm; I'm not a Cylon)

Seriously, Devlin's almost as bad as Uwe Boll....except, admitedly, this guy kinda gives a crap about his film properties and admits when he's messed up, even IF it's 13 years after the damn fact. Boll , on the other hand, is a egotistical Scrooge. Same thing might be said about Rolland Emmerich, too, now that I think of it. ESPECIALLY given how bad his last 3 films were.

it'll never work the show went off on they're own(imo better) mythos the aspects of the aliens were totally different

if it makes it like the first film fans will hate it and will want to see the tv's shows cast

The title of this thread is a little misleading. A lot of people seem to be having kittens because they are misreading it as Dean Devlin being involved in the Godzilla reboot at Warner Bros. He is talking about the remake he made in the 90's, and said he has nothing to do with the new reboot.

I'd be cool with an Independence Day sequel if the script was good enough.

Roland Emerich doesnt consider the tv shows a part of his stargate universe or as being cannon. He wants to do a follow up continuing the story started in the original movie and pretty much disregard everything that happened in the tv shows. This was stated by him last year in an interview. It was up on Gateworld.

IMO the series was superior anyways. The first two anyways. The third plodded along so slowly it was hard to tell and then got cancelled as soon as it started going somewhere.

I bet he'll rip off a lot of the ideas from the television series though to incorporate into any movies he gets made.

The Stargate thing is odd. What...is it going to be a sort of reboot? Or will it be completely seperate from the series? Maybe a new team. meh.

Devlin's doing fine with "Leverage". Maybe he should make like Bruckheimer and produce more TV rather than trying to recapture his glory days.

Read my above post.

Stargate: The Movie < Stargate SG1, Atlanits, Universe. I much prefer the TV franchise's side of things.
