Death of the cheap parody movies?

Hopefully, they'll let the parody craze die down until we start getting well-written material.

Superhero Movie wasn't too bad at the start, but it started going a little downhill at like the 45 minute mark. I actually laughed at loud at some parts.

They should keep trying because Superhero movie actually tried to get a story going and was probably a better effort than the last few spoof movies. One day, a movie is going to get it right.

GLAD this crap bombed, it didnt even look remotely funny.

The people making this crap really need to go back and watch some classics for research.

For example...
Airplane!
Blazing Saddles
The Naked Gun
Hot Shots

These were very well done spoofs, and the people making these newer ones should really study them.

Oh, and the 1st "Scary Movie" wasn't that bad.

The maker of Superhero Movie made two of those movies, that you listed.

Never-the-less, these movies are cheap to make and Superhero Movie probably still turn a profit...so unfortunately don't expect these to go anywhere :csad:

I like how the ppl who havent even seen it are blasting it in this thread. I've seen it and I thought it was a decent parody (and I HATED "epic/date/meet the spartans").

The film wasnt a "colossal faliure", it came in 3rd place because of the lame-ass "Fan Boys" protesting from Star Wars fans (for those of you who dont know, the plan for the protest was to protest opening weekend of "Superhero Movie" so it would flop because the same studio ordered re-shoots of "Fan Boys" because they dont like the cancer plot). It made a few million short of studio expectations.

you forgot Spaceballs!

Eh, I just watched that DVD with commentary and Brooks himself admits it's not his best work. And he's right. I'd have cited Young Frankenstein as a better example even than Blazing Saddles, myself.

It's not the death, cause while it didn't make as much in the opening weekend as previous spoof movies, I'm sure it still made a profit, can't cost too much to make these movies.

Superhero Movie at the very least looked like it tried to have a cohesive plot. Too many of the other Scary Movie spin-offs, including the last two Scary Movies, had too much of an "everything but the kitchen sink" approach, where they parodied movies and pop culture regardless of whether or not it even fit the genre.

If they were made today they would be called "Disaster Movie!" "Cowboy Movie" "Cop Movie" and "War Movie" :down:csad:

I had no idea about the boycott. I just didn't see it because it looked stupid.

THANK YOU! (someone else who's actually seen the movie)

Superhero Movie was definotely the best attempt at a spoof since Scary Movie 1. Actually having seen this movie and many of the others since then (i.e., Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans), I should know.

Some of you should actually give this movie a chance when it comes on DVD or even on cable (or wherever). It's actually worth watching at least once. Those other crappy spoof movies have created a slippery slope for the genre now.

To be honest...what made spoofs fun was the humourous take on the conventions of certain genres and particular films but still maintaining a slice of originality.

Now it seems they are cutting and pasting scenes from othe movies and adding slapstick and farce humour to try and make more bucks.

I don't know why things got so bad. Mel brooks getting old may have something to do with it. Now all we have is some immature hacks producing stupid ****.
