I thought it might be fun for us to discuss all those rumours and theories that turned out to be false. Some of them had quite a bit of potential and made sense, but for one reason or another, didn't happen.

Only a few spring to mind right now though...

  • Hulk in Wakanda; he didn't appear. Everyone thought he'd do so when Bruce went down in the Hulkbuster Armour, no doubt we were all expecting Hulk to break out and smash; this was further fuelled by the trailer scene that showed Hulk charging with the rest of the Avengers, which didn't happen (the scene was there, but Hulk wasn't).

  • Xandar as the opening scene, we knew it (had to of) happened, cause Thanos has the Power Stone, though we didn't actually see Thanos get it. I'm actually a little miffed about this, as I had hoped to see his forces in full, prior to the Wakandan battle, but then we did see his army on Gamora's homeworld, so I guess it would have been a similar scope.

  • The Soul Stone; many of us thought it was in Wakanda, when we couldn't have been more wrong. Not only wasn't it in Wakanda, it wasn't even on Earth.

Feel free to add...

Every single Soul Stone theory was debunked, that's for sure. The planet didn't even start with an H! The Hulk theories were a bit unfair just because Hulk was in the trailer to fool people.

Two more:

Hela would replace Death as the object of Thanos's affection. I never really bought this theory, especially after Ragnarok.

Loki would replace Mephisto as the duplicitous advisor. I did believe this one until that opening scene.

Adam Warlock’s “birth” as the post-credit scene.

Pepper Potts in the Iron Man suit getting punched by Thanos.

Hilariously wrong!

So many scenes that should have been in this film were not I guess it must have been cut due to time constraints because it is a 2 hr 40 minute run time

Howard the Duck, although he is likely being saved for Avengers 4.

Yeah I think they cut out a lot of stuff in this film probably because they must be saving it for Avengers 4 or they must have taken DC's lead and did reshoots

Biggest one would be the location of the Soul Stone. Of the five popular theories I've read on the Internet, none of them proved to be right. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, of course. I was still pleased with how the movie keeps on surprising us.

Yeah so many plot twists that debunk theories but that is kind of the point because they want to keep us guessing

I definitely thought this movie was gonna end with Thanos still missing one or more stones as more of a stalemate, not a decisive victory.

I never got where that one came from.

Someone on Youtube claimed that Tony putting his hands up to defend himself was something a woman would do.

Other theories:

- Peter Dinklage was Pip the Troll.

- Hawkeye was gonna play a massive, pivotal role in the final battle, which is why they were hiding him.

- Thor was going to get one of Heimdall's eyes.

- War Machine was gonna die (people say this every movie I have no idea why people still believe this anymore).

But the way Iron Man is holding his arms defensively is obviously very feminine and something only a cowering female would do! ... :hmr:

It's obvious that FRIDAY took over at that moment, being a female AI personality. Mystery solved.

Not only that, but I don’t even think that shot of Thanos punching Iron Man was in the movie at all.

It was, it was just sandwiched between SO MUCH AWESOME during the fight on Titan that it barely registered.

Oh god, I forgot about this one. No comment, I already got infracted once today

I remember it being slightly different. The one from the trailer involved him getting hit square on the head and going down cold. With the one in the movie, I seem to recall him getting his hands up to help block the punch and not being completely down and out.

Hah, all because of the arm position too. Some people really do look far too much into a scene.

I absolutely love the logic that the "proof" Hawkeye was in the movie was "because the Russo"s said it would be explained when you see the movie."

NO, the reason why he's not in the movie will be explained in the movie. In one sentence.

The fact that people forced this mnemonic device idea into the world for the soul stone still offends me. Like how? Why would the locations spell out his name? This isn't ****ing Doctor Who!

Thanos is an alien from an alien planet. Oh, and they called N for Necklace for the Time Stone. But A is still Aether for Reality Stone? Really? ****ing really? It angered me so much. Even Film Theorist did it.

I thought they said he was on a specific quest that would explain why he wasn't in the trailers. They definitely hinted on a role. Plus, people saw him being filmed and he apparently was in the Comic Con footage.

It was more than just the Russo's quote.

- Peter Dinklage was Pip the Troll.

- Thor was going to get one of Heimdall's eyes.

These were kind of close, Peter Dinklage wasn't a troll but he was a dwarve king and Thor didn't get Heimdall's eyes but he did get his bifrost ability.

There was never any doubt Hawkeye was going to be in Avengers 4. The shots of him filming in his new costume came out well after IW had wrapped up. Clearly either late reshoots for IW or more likely for A4.

But to leave his name off the posters and advertising because he "will play a special important role" LOL

The only big name person who was left off the advertising was SLJ. Even glorified cameos from Elba and Paltrow made the posters at the bottom. So yeah, Renner was going to be a post-credits cameo or not in the movie. But a secret important role? :whatever:

The T.H.A.N.O.S. name theory is dead? What if the missing H is 'Heart'? (No hammer, Heimdall or Hela, etc.)
