IMO:
- Best Picture: The Dark Knight, Spider-man 2, X-Men: First Class.
- Best Director: The Dark Knight.
- Best Adapted Screenplay: The Dark Knight, Iron Man, The Winter Soldier, X-Men: Days of Future Past
- Best Actor: Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Hugh Jackman (Logan, X-Men: First Class)

Only mention Big-5 categories :drl:

The only ones that stand out to me for Best Picture are The Dark Knight and Logan.

The Dark Knight for Picture, Christopher Nolan for directing. Also it should have been nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay that year. I honestly think Hardy should have been nominated for Rises too.

Patrick Stewart for Best Supporting Actor for Logan, and the film (after I, Tonya) should have probably been nominated for Best Picture. Hugh Jackman probably for Best Actor too.

Wonder Woman for Costume Design and Production Design.

Spider-Man 2 for Best Adapted Screenplay. Maybe Raimi too for Best Directing, but I'd have to see who he'd have been up against that year.

Michelle Pfeiffer for Best Supporting Actress in 1993 for Batman Returns.

Jack Nicholson for Best Supporting Actor in 1990, as well as Danny Elfman for Best Score. Love that Anton Furst won an Oscar for the production design though.

Superman: The Movie for Best Picture in 1979 (though happy that John Williams got a nomination for his score. Probably should have won, however.).

Do you think that Black Panther deserves a Best Picture nomination? Or MBJ a Best Supporting Actor nom?

It's way too early to tell. But I honestly right now think I'll be keeping Michael B. Jordan in my mind a year from now. So we'll see.

It's hard to say since unless you've seen all the films that got nominated, and were realistically in contention, you don't have a complete view even from your own perspective.

If I were to give an opinion anyway the only thing I can think of right now is Patrick Stewart for supporting actor.

Best Picture:

Superman: The Movie
The Dark Knight
Logan

Christopher Reeve (Superman: The Movie)

Best Animated Feature Film:

The Lego Batman Movie

Best Cinematographer:

Top post says top voting categories only, but if we are expanding to all....

Composer/Score - The TDK trilogy & John Williams for Superman (1978)

Best Actor in a Supporting Role - Gary Oldman for TDK

Costume - Watchmen - Michael Wilkinson

Best Actor in a Supporting Role - Jackie Earle Haley for Watchmen

Best Animated Film (if it different win already) - The Incredibles

I'm sorry there has never been a superhero movie good enough to merit a best picture nom.

Like not even remotely close.

I agree, but I think it's also worth pointing out that many of the movies that won Best Picture shouldn't even have garnered noms themselves. That's not to say that Superhero Movie X, Y, or Z, should have replaced any of them, my point is that I really don't think that there's much value or credibility in these dog & pony shows in general. The criteria and methodology seems akin to that of coffee & wine tasting events.

Agreed but be that as it may.

Did you follow the Award Season in 2009 ? The Dark Knight got PGA, WGA, DGA, SAGA, which is 4 most important Guilds awards and propably most important precursors along with BAFTA.

It also got Best Film, Directing, Screenplay nods at Critics Choice. It was so close for a Best Picture nods that later on, its snub is the reason that AMPAS expand the BP category into 10 (When being asked why 10 nominees for Best Picture, Sidney Ganis - the president of AMPAS that time, said, and I quote: "I would not be telling you the truth if I said the words ‘Dark Knight’ did not come up"). Which means if The Dark Knight was released in 2010s, it would 100% get a Best Picture nod, not to mention screenplay and directing.

Moreover, Logan got a Screenplay nod this year, Deadpool even went further, got PGA, WGA and Globe nod for Best comedy.

The Incredibles got a screenplay nod and I guarantee you if there have been 10 spot for Best Picture in 2005, it would have definitely got in.

Supporting acting is also counted as big-5, dude.

I didn't know that. Interesting.

I know about TDK, I don't think it deserved it then either.

A movie like TDK can never measure up to the standard of something like Slumdog Millionaire. If the two of those movies are up for the same award then something is wrong. Really we shouldn't even be comparing the two.

But the nods that year included pure oscar-bait **** like Frost/Nixon or The Reader. TDK doesn't need to match up with Slumdog to be nominated. It just needed to be the top 5 movies of the year and I think it was.

Almost every year there are nominated movies that are not on the same level with the frontrunners but they're good enough so they can get a nod. THe point of Best Picture is top films of the year, not films that match up with the best film in the year.

Eh... maybe it's cause I thought TDK was pretentious and overrated.

Superhero movies are just sillier in nature I guess. It's hard for me to really put them on that same pedestal. They're fun movies.

I don't think they're silly. Logan and TDK quite stands out as serious, dark movies for me. People even said that these 2 ones are not even Superhero movies. TDK is a crime, thriller drama while Logan is a thriller, drama about survival. The only thing makes them considered superhero movies are the names of character.

TDK is not a crime thriller, it's a comic book superhero movie dressed as a crime thriller. Big difference.

And yes it is still a silly movie.
