Hi, really need some help here with my comp, when it loads up no desktop comes up and the screen remains blank.

If I press control-alt-delete and start task manager, I can get programs working, but the main desktop screen remains blank, if I start the computer in safe mode the desktop comes up, but non of my security works, can anyone suggest any solutions I would be very grateful, thanks.

Define security? Me thinks you need to do a virus and a spyware scan while in safe mode. Also, if you can help us what OS you are using? XP? Vista? Seven?

Thanks,
Ali

Using, Vista, did a scan but when re-started in normal mode screen was blank again.

By security I meant my Mcafee security.

^This all sounds helpful, thanks, will try it tomorrow and let you know.

Sounds like Windows Explorer has gotten %^&* up. This happenned to my laptop after a sh(tty Windows Update. I was able to get it working under Safe Mode, but couldn't get it to work on Normal boot up.

If you can access safe mode, back up all your important files and re-install Windows. This is the easiest of the methods to fix your problem. TRUST ME.

Otherwise, you can go through each and every windows service and startup, turn them all off, restart, and then turn them on one by one and keep restarting your PC between each, until you find the program/file thats causing it.

Good luck.

i worked with geek squad before but i'm working with my own now doing satellite tv comparison. i usually fix those kinds of problems back in the geek squad days and what i usually do is to download dial-a-fix and look installed spywares and adwares inside the system. i do it basically in safe mode.. once all spywares and adwares are removed, when you restart your pc to normal mode you'll see your windows is back to normal
