we all know about the rumors of directors getting fired and all that bad stuff, but what is paramount doing to make people actually watch this movie?

NOTHING!

i have seen about 5movies this summer and NONE of them had GIJoe previews! if Transformers2 doesnt have a preview for this flick it will not be good for us(Since it will probably suck, and paramount knows it,not to spend money for the preview).

where are the cast interviews?

where is the general advertising? where is the toy commercials? video game cover stories?where are the "New" trailers!?!?! i've seen the newest preview and it looks the exact same as the superbowl one.

im not a HUGE gijoe fan like everyone else but i do like the franchise, and when i heard they were making this movie, i was pretty stoked.

it just seems paramount doesn care about it, and it seems like they already wiped there hands clean of this movie.which is really sad since it opens in August and has little to no competition before or a week after.

1. The rumors of Sommers being fired were false and refuted.

2. There was a teaser during the superbowl, the 1st trailer was with Star Trek, and the second one is with Transformers 2. What more do you want?

3. The movie is still over a month away, so cast interviews aren't happening yet.

4. There were TV spots for it about a week ago. Again though, the movie is a month and a half away, so don't expect a marketing blitz until it's about to release.

5. The toys will probably be out a few weeks before the movie, like with Transformers 2.

6. The video game is just a cheap cash in (like 90% of movie tie-in games), so don't expect to see it on the cover of Game Informer, or any magazine for that matter. It's just another piece of merchandise, so don't expect to see any kind of special attention for it.

It sounds to me like your expectations are unrealistically high at this point due to Transformers coming out this week-- and that's just the thing. Transformers 2 is coming out tomorrow, and GI Joe comes out in a month and a half. Do you really expect Paramount and Hasbro to promote a movie that's that far away as agressively right now as the movie that's just now out? Have some patience.

The trailers need a new angle. Anything other than the overdone "Accelerator Suits". I think everyone has seen and heard enough of the suits costing "millions of dollars". I hope something "new" actually comes our way. The one-dimensional trailers just frustrate the heck out of me. :(

I imagine Paramount will increase the promotion after Transformers is out. They held back on the Transformers until after Trek was released. One movie at a time.

1.the fact that there was even a mention of something like this happening isnt a good sign. a rumor like this wouldnt come from nowhere, i guarentee there IS some truth in this.

2.i never got a trailer with star trek(Maybe cuz it was imax)

3. Movies like this(Summer blockbusters) have interviews ith cast and crew months before the movie comes out. see:Transformers and Wolverine.

4.i hope so man.

5. i have seen toys and posters and other products for movies like wolverine and star trek and t2 months before the movie release.

6screw the game, its gonna fail and suck. but the maers are doig nothing to convince me otherwise

here is a quote from Latino review transformers revenge of the fallen review

G.I. Joe is not the movie Paramount should be worried about.

LMFAO

I've kind of done a 180 with this movie. When I first heard that it was announced, I thought it sounded like it could be really cool. I wasn't even opposed to Sommers, because I thought that his cheeseball style could fit the franchise pretty well (BTW, most of the exposure I've had to GI Joe was from the cartoons). And I was excited about a lot of the cast members.

But now, after seeing the costumes and the trailers, and knowing some of the plot points, I almost want this movie to be absolutely horrible and fall flat on its face. I won't lie. I'm convinced that it's not going to be any good, so the best I can hope for is that it will be the worst movie possible. That way, at least I can laugh at it instead of sitting there rolling my eyes and being bored.

But the sad part is, I don't think it will be mega-awful, it will just be flat-out average. Just another boring, run-of-the-mill mindless action flick released towards the end of the summer because they know it can't compete with the bigger films (although this particular summer I don't think that was really anything that they should have worried about). Thus the movie will not only fail to be good, but it will also fail at failing completely, making it even more of a total failure.

Does that make sense to anyone but me?

1. Sorry, but saying "people don't ever just pull stuff out of their ass" is a very naive statement. Especially since Don Murphy is suspected of starting the rumor, and everyone knows that he's got a serious ax to grind with Lorenzo Bonaventura (GI Joe's producer). In fact, it's speculated that Murphy had to meet with Bonaventura in person just to apologize over for the whole mess, or he would have been sued for liability.

BTW, did you know that Brett Ratner is in preliminary talks to direct X-Men: First Class?

3. That's usually only when they have big stars attached. GI Joe's cast, while solid IMO, is not full of "name of the minute" actors, so it's not like ET and E! news are going to be gushing all over the movie's production like with Transformers 2, which has both Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox (who are both very big names right now). This is an unproven franchise (on film) who's biggest star is Dennis Quade. Again, have some patience. You'll get your interview videos soon enough.

5. C'mon, now your exaggerating. I'm not sure about where you live, but most people I know didn't start seeing Wolverine toys until a little more than a month before it released, and the same can be said of Transformers. GI Joe's toy line is supposed to be launching soon, and since the movie is a bit more than a month away that seems appropriate. Again, I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill because Transformers is everywhere right now, and you are subconciously expecting it to be the same way with GI Joe even though their releases are over a month apart.

I havent heard bad things from anyone who liked the first one.
So I guess if you like the first you'll like the 2nd

i dunno. this just seems like it has Fantastic Four written all over it. make sense to anyone besides me?

That Guy, I'm sort of in the same boat. I was SORT of OK with Sommers doing it provided they were faithful to the integrity of the material and stories and characters Larry Hama created. They've already thrown that out, and the trailers and clips so far look awful.

In the way it may come across as kind of bland? Yeah, I get that too. Fantastic Four had a stronger cast and was pretty true to the comics though. Fantastic Four was not a good action movie, while G.I. Joe may still be.

Reed and Sue were horrendously miscast.

McMahon I think maybe could've been a good Doom under a better director. His execution in both movies was AWFUL.

The story in Fantastic 4 was horrendous though-- the entire first action setpiece is the Fantastic 4 trying to rescue people from a disaster they created themselves! There's no way GI Joe's script can be worse than F4's, so hopefully it will at least outshine it in terms of direction.

Just because F4 was bad doesn't mean GI JOE can't be worse.

1. Fox isn't controlling it
2. Stephen Sommers is making it, not Tim Story

1. So what? Studios other than Fox are very capable of making absolute stinkers.

2. Again so what? You seem to be forgetting that fans and audiences don't have a high opinion of VAN HELSING which was a massive disappointment and a failed franchise attempt.

1. Yes, but Paramount is on a high note right now with Iron Man, the Transformers movies, and Star Trek. Recently, they've shown that if they want to launch a solid franchise they can, and I don't think they're going to drop the ball yet.

2. He also made the first two Mummy movies which were both very well received by audiences, and made tons of cash for Universal. Van Helsing's biggest problem IMO is that the story was broken, but hopefully that is a problem they can avoid with GI Joe. Even Van Helsing made a profit when you consider the DVD sales though.

was there a gijoe preview for you guys? i saw it in imax and there was only harry potter

No, McMahon was a far worse decision than Gruffudd. The way Doom was written is the best way for him to work in the role, and it still didn't. McMahon would have been increasingly bad the closer they got to the comics. As for Gruffudd, he was pretty much Reed, in as much as the script allowed for.

I thought McMahon was bearable as Doom. He did the best he could have with some really crappy dialogue, and not much to do as a character but go crazy. I missed the classic Doom and all his trappings, but for the reinvented version, McMahon was decent.

They took all of the mystery out of the character. Not his fault, but unfortunate all the same.

I'm gonna be straight up, I am predicting right now, that this will be one of the huger movies of the summer along with Up, Trek and Hangover. I know we been lambasting the *****, but I sense it is gonna hook up some cheddar. :o
