I get they couldn't go full on WETA level realistic because that probably would've been too dark and edgy for the kiddies. They had to split the difference I guess. Some of those things just would not look right if they had real world proportions.

They look exactly how they should, Pokemon's can't look realistic, because they are in same category as Bat-Mite and Mister Mxyzptlk.
