Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker coming to North America in early 2015
Published 12 mins ago. 15 comments.

Full English voices, relocalized dialogue, and post-story episode.
DS2RB-Loc-Ann.jpg

Atlus is bringing Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor 2: Break Record to 3DS in North America in early 2015 as Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker, the publisher announced.
An enhanced version of the 2011 DS title, Record Breaker adds full English story voices, completely relocalized dialogue, and a new episode that continues after the final day of the original Devil Survivor 2, which is nearly double the length of the original game and can be accessed immediately from the title screen. And no knowledge of the original Devil Survivor is required to play its sequel, so newcomers to the series won’t lack any crucial plot information.
Find a full plot summary and features list below.
Summary
The world of Record Breaker is on the brink of non-existence. Just before the heralding of the apocalypse, when life was normal, some thrill-seekers were registering on a website that promised to deliver fake videos of their friends being killed. As people wondered what these videos could mean, an invasion began and humanity was forced to face a struggle to survive in an unprecedented catastrophe. For the main character and his friends, they stand up for humanity when the very same website uploads an application on their cell phones, summoning demons. From there, newly minted demon tamers begin the fight to survive and save the future of mankind, but the protagonist’s decisions aren’t without consequences. What he chooses may save the lives of his friends, or seal their fate.
For those who played the original Devil Survivor 2, the new plot expands the story by continuing the game from the ending of the original game. This continuation introduces a new character to the game, Miyako Hotsuin, but her origins are deeply shrouded in mystery. Record Breaker gives players the option of either skipping to the new content right away or playing through the original game first, suiting the needs for all experience levels.
Main Features

  • Tactical Combat with a Side of Demon Fusion - The elements that make the Devil Survivor series great are back and better than ever with robust, turn-based strategic combat. Since the game is part of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, fusing demons together to form a stronger army is back as a core mechanic!
  • Choose Your Own Fate - The line between life and death is razor-thin in Record Breaker. Actions have their consequences, and in the wake of the apocalypse, a wrong choice can result in the permanent death of a character. Multiple endings present the challenge of making all the right choices at the right time.
  • Extra Content Atlus is Known For - Record Breaker expands on the original Devil Survivor 2 by nearly doubling the amount of storyline for a total of more than 100 hours of strategic game play and consuming plot, with the additional mystery of Miyako Hotsuin to unravel.
  • New Personalities to Discover - For the first time, Devil Survivor 2 is getting fully voiced English story dialogue. The voiced dialogue in both the new content and the original story gives added depth in bringing the game’s characters to life from ominous beginning to dramatic end.
  • Enhanced game play - Record Breaker gives player characters new abilities, and the world is chock full of more demons to fuse.
Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker will be available at retail and on the Nintendo eShop for $49.99 when it launches in early 2015.

The latest set of Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker trailers introduce characters the Anguished One and Tycho, as well as several gameplay systems.
Among the systems, you’ll see demon gathering via auctions, leveling up your demons in battle, and fusing your demons to make newer, better demons.
Watch the trailers below. The game is due out or 3DS on January 29 in Japan and early 2015 in North America.

Anguished One

[YT]6rGafyJfe-4[/YT]

The Anguished One is a recurring character in the Septentrion chapter of Devil Survivor 2 who has a tendency to suddenly appear before the protagonist and his friends, the former of which he often refers to as “Shining One.” A true enigma in every sense of the word, he poses myriad ambiguous questions while providing few answers himself. Depending on the player’s choices during the storyline, he can at times be fought as an enemy, while at other times work together with the protagonist and his party. In the Triangulum chapter, he, along with Yamato, are seemingly nowhere to be found within the new world.

Tycho

[YT]dt8dw74b7ew[/YT]
Tycho is the players’ Nicaea contact, who can be selected as either male or female. Tycho is an artificial intelligence built into the game’s devil summoning application that will support the protagonists through a variety of methods. Tycho will have a different tone depending on the gender you select.

Durarara!! Characters Are In Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker. January 7, 2015 . 2:02pm

Durarara!! characters Celty Sturluson, Izaya Orihara, and Shizuo Heiwajima will make cameo appearances in Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker.

We somehow missed this back when it was revealed in the pages of Famitsu magazine, but Atlus recently revealed that Durarara!! characters Celty Sturluson, Izaya Orihara, and Shizuo Heiwajima will make cameo appearances in Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker.

Details on the three characters are scarce for the moment, but the three will partake in battles, since Famitsu shows screenshots of the them with their stats and race (“Foreigner”). Just what role they’ll play in the game remains to be seen. They could simply be bosses or they could be more.

Why Durarara!! characters? Because as a few of our readers probably already know, the character designs for Devil Survivor and Durarara!! are by the same artist—Suzuhito Yasuda. Yasuda has since also designed characters for games such as Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth.

Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker will be available in North America sometime during early 2015.

Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker’s Durarara!! Characters Have Some Powerful Abilities. January 9, 2015 . 1:50am

Atlus recently revealed that Durarara!! characters Celty Sturluson, Izaya Orihara, and Shizuo Heiwajima will appear as cameo characters in Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker. The official website shares some more information on the guests.

The collaboration was done in part with the second season of Durarara!! which is scheduled to begin airing on January 10. As you may already know, the Devil Survivor games’ characters are designed by Durarara!! character designer, Suzuhito Yasuda, who also designed characters for Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth.

As for the guest characters, they’ll appear for a limited time as characters that you’ll get to recruit into your party in Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker. The official website also notes that they have tremendous skills.

[YT]TJUlwbu0RYE[/YT]

The above video shows us a first look at the three characters, who can be summoned and put into your parties. Among their various skills, it shows Izaya using one that charms enemies, Shizuo has his trademark attack that will have him throw stop signs, cars, and other obstacles to deal big damage, and Celty uses a shadow ability that hits all foes.

While we’re not sure whether the collaboration will simply just add the characters for your party, Izaya can be downloaded from January 29 until February 4, Shizuo from February 5 to 11, and Celty from February 12 to 18.

Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker will release in North America sometime in early 2015 for Nintendo 3DS.

Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker Developers On Miyako, And The Making Of The Game. February 11, 2015 . 12:33pm

Director Shinjiro Takada and art director Akiko Kotoh talk about the making of the enhanced 3DS port.

Atlus released Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker last month in Japan, and to commemorate the occasion, they held a little interview on the game’s official blog with key developers, director Shinjiro Takada and art director Akiko Kotoh, about the making of the enhanced 3DS port.

During the interview, they’re asked to share the meaning behind the game’s subtitle , Record Breaker (or rather, Break Record in Japan).

“I can’t give you the deeper meaning behind it today,” says Kotoh after explaining a translation of the English phrase of ‘break the record’. “As for subtitles, during the development of part 1, we named it Overclocked when we released it for the 3DS, which I believe gave it a strong sense and a feeling of ‘surpassing its predecessor’.”

“The [Record Breaker] subtitle has some deep roots in the story, so it’s kind of difficult to comment on that…” adds Takada. “There are actually several meanings behind it, so please check it out for yourselves once you get to play it.”

The next question asks them to touch a little more on the new character called Miyako.

“Miyako was actually a character that was decided on during the development of the original version of the game for Nintendo DS, but we decided that she was unnecessary while working out details on the scenario, and decided to omit the character” explains Takada.

“For that reason, she doesn’t exist during the Septentriones part of the game,” he continues. “However, she’s a character we contemplated, so [her inclusion] began after consulting with the writer on whether she could appear in the Triangulum part.”

Next, they’re both asked if they’d like to share any aspects of the game they were particularly focused on, or struggled during the development of Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker.

Takada says that he felt that they had most trouble on the Triangulum part, the reason being that the characters had all matured while surviving the seven days during the Septentriones part, and he didn’t want that to go to waste. However, he had trouble figuring out what kind of new drama would take place and how to depict how much they’d grown.

As for Kotoh, she says that her main focus was on the opening movie for the game. She even went as far as telling the producer who worked on Devil Survivor 2: The Animation, that she’d “like to make something like Akira” for the opening. Unfortunately, there were many parts that got cut out from the final version, but she hopes that someday there will be a way to show it all to the fans, one way or another.

As we all know by now, Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker features guest characters from Durarara!!. The interviewer asks how that came to be.

“One day, I was there wondering what would it be like if characters from one of my favorite works in Durarara!! were to appear in the world of Devil Survivor,” responds Takada. “They’re both modern dramas, and both illustrated by [Suzuhito] Yasuda , so the opportunity came from the thought of how they would appear as guests.”

Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker will release in North America sometime in early 2015 for Nintendo 3DS.

The decals are in addition to the previously announced collectible box and CD soundtrack composed by Shoji Meguro bonuses.

Atlus also announced that it will live stream the game on its Twitch channel next Thursday, March 11 at 2:30 p.m. PDT. Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker details StreetPass and SpotPass features

Published 3 hours ago. 8 comments.

Atlus planning several waves of SpotPass content.

SMTDS2_03-11-15.jpg
Atlus has detailed the StreetPass and SpotPass features of Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker.
The 3DS game will let players give each other skills and stat bonuses via StreetPass, and various SpotPass content like new demons and skills are also planned.
Get the details below, via Atlus.
SpotPass
We’ll have several waves of SpotPass content rolling out once the game launches (schedule still TBD), but the immediate advantage will be a whole ton of new demons for players to fuse. So if you were looking for your precious Tyrant Lucifer Frost or Wilder Catoblepas, they’ll be rolling out to players via SpotPass. Another bonus going out via SpotPass will be some skill add-ons. One of the hallmarks of the Devil Summoner series is cracking skills that are assigned from a communal skill pool, meaning players can’t use the same skill on more than one character. Via SpotPass, players will be able to get a helpful magic skill, a powerful normal skill, and a recommended physical skill added to their skill pool. But that’s all we’re telling you about them!
StreetPass
When you StreetPass with other Demon Summoners, it will allow you to give various stat and skill bonuses to your own demons! But beware, the demon and the stat bonuses are chosen at random – use them wisely!
Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker will launch for 3DS in North America on May 5. View a new set of screenshots at the gallery. visit gallery »

About
The world of Record Breaker is on the brink of non-existence. Just before the heralding of the apocalypse, when life was normal, some thrill-seekers were registering on a website that promised to deliver fake videos of their friends being killed. As people wondered what these videos could mean, an invasion began and humanity was forced to face a struggle to survive in an unprecedented catastrophe..
Key Features

  • Tactical Combat with a Side of Demon Fusion – The elements that make the Devil Survivor series great are back and better than ever with robust, turn-based strategic combat. Since the game is part of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, fusing demons together to form a stronger army is back as a core mechanic!
  • Choose Your Own Fate – The line between life and death is razor-thin in Record Breaker. Actions have their consequences, and in the wake of the apocalypse, a wrong choice can result in the permanent death of a character. Multiple endings present the challenge of making all the right choices at the right time.
  • Tons of Extra Content – Record Breaker expands on the original Devil Survivor 2 by nearly doubling the amount of storyline for a total of more than 100 hours of strategic game play and consuming plot, with the additional mystery of Miyako Hotsuin to unravel.
  • New Personalities to Discover – For the first time, Devil Survivor 2 is getting fully voiced English story dialogue. The voiced dialogue in both the new content and the original story gives added depth in bringing the game’s characters to life from ominous beginning to dramatic end.
Etrian Mystery Dungeon

[YT]dznAmveZBnE[/YT]
About
There’s no hand-holding in Etrian Mystery Dungeon. The action/turn based combat means that battling monsters is not just about using the right skills, but becomes an elegant Pas de Quatre of strategic positioning. Players form their parties with familiar Etrian Odyssey classes, such as Landsknecht and Runemaster, customize individuals using Etrian-style skill trees, and then take up to four members into the dungeons. Always randomized with various levels and paths, the dungeons require plenty of exploration, not to mention the incredible loot rewards — just be wary of what waits among the deepest depths…
Key Features

  • Infinite Dungeons to Explore – Etrian Mystery Dungeon incorporates the random map feature, which changes the floor terrain each time a player enters the dungeon. This core mechanic, inherited from the Mystery Dungeon series, challenges the players with a new maze and stronger monsters every time, offering them unlimited replayability!
  • Attention to Detail – The Etrian Odyssey tradition of party customization is in full effect for Etrian Mystery Dungeon. After the first journey as a Landsknecht, players can freely choose their party of 4 from up to 10 different class types. While each class has a unique skill set of its own, characters can also unlock new skills through skill trees.
  • Not Your Grandfather’s Combat – The unique perspective in Etrian Mystery Dungeon means that special care will have to be given when selecting party members and upgrading their abilities. With dungeons chock full of enemies and all the loot and money collected at stake, being 100 percent certain in your party’s abilities is crucial for making it out alive.
