"Dexter" on Showtime

Any idea how much it is at Barnes n noble? I'm gonan try and find it today. Is it under suspense, mystery, horror, etc. That'll make it easier to find.

Just ask. I just finished the first one and started on the second one. And let me tell you something, if they decide to use the main killer in the second book in the second season, he will put the Ice Truck Killer's murders to shame.

Nice. I haven't read the second one yet.

Jeez, if they decide to go with the storyline in the second book with Dexter and Rita's son Cody, it may be one of the most coolest/disturbing things in TV history.

New Dexter on to-night. I can't wait.

Just got done with the second book. I really hope that if there will be a second season that they stick a little more to the book than they did with the first season. Don't get me wrong, the TV series is awesome in its own way, but the books give more insight into Dexter's head. I mean he really seems much more like a monster in the books. Don't read this next part unless you want the potential ending of the seaon finale ruined and the first book ruined as well.

At the end of the first book with Dexter trying to find his sister kidnapped by the Ice Truck Killer, he finds her in a refrigerated cargo box, strapped down, with the Ice Truck Killer revealing himself and the truth that he is his brother, he is not alone, that there is another one like him. And he invites Dexter to kill Deborah with him. And Dexter very nearly does it, stopped only by La Guerta who is then taken down by Rudy (known as Brian in the book).

The ending to the first book has a twist where it seems like after Rudy kills La Guerta they both kill Deborah, but Dexter actually lets Rudy escape and Deborah lives, and of course now knows Dexter's secret, but doesn't turn him in. Its that general tone and feeling that the TV series doesn't always seem get across. Thats just my opinion.

Oh and like I said before if they choose to take the Dexter-Cody storyline in the next season, it is going to be pretty controversial.

To-night's episode was OK. I'm getting tired of the sub-plots. I wish the episode focused on the Ice Truck Killer.

Next week is the last Episode. It has to be great.

And from what I know, they are green lit for a second season.

This show is perhaps one of the most well written and deep shows I have seen on TV ever. It is fantastic.

I just wonder how he's going to get out of the Ice Truck Killers clutches next week, or if it was a halucination or what??

My other huge question, is how does Rudy know all about Dexter's past, when all the records are destroyed??? How are they connected???

He broke into his apartment remember? Saw his entire photo album. And again I have to use spoiler tags for the second part of this explanation because I don't want to ruin this for other people. This is the main reason why they are connected. Be warned it probably gives away the ending to the season finale.

The way Dexter's mom dies in the book looks to be the same in the TV series. She gets chainsawed in the refrigerated cargo container and Dexter is in there for a couple days in blood. But what is unknown to Dexter, mainly because he was simply too young to remember was that he had brother and he was there as well. Rudy is his brother. He is older and was able to remember all this and seeing his mother murdered had the same effect on him as it did on Dexter. Dexter couldn't remember it until Rudy started the murders and more specifically when he made that bloodbath in the hotel room. Also another clue in the previous episode is when Dexter breaks into Pauls place and says that drugs, ammo and weapons equals a potential family massequre, he started having flashbacks as soon as he thought that.

Rudy is doing this to make him remember, and also because Rudy is like Dexter, he has an urge to kill, except Rudy didn't have someone like Harry to help and guide him which is why Dexter turned out the way he did, only killing those who deserved it. Another clue, the number 103. The date on which their mom was killed. Who else would know that except his brother? I'm guessing Harry kept it a secret and had the evidence destroyed which would reveal the truth that Dex had a brother because he knew how Rudy would turn out, but that there was still hope for Dexter, still a chance he could channel that murderous urge into something good. This later becomes a really creepy plot in the second book, but thats another story alltogether. Basically, Harry wanted to protect Dexter from his brother.

The only that really puts a kink in this theory is that Rudy had said his mother was killed by being run over. Unless he lied about that. And I can only suspect that they are going to go with Rudy being Dexter's brother, but again that hasn't been confirmed yet either, but I am almost certain that they will go with that.

^^I totally told a friend that that was going to be the case!!!

Creepy plot in the second one huh?? I do hope Dex doesn't go to the dark side like Rudy seems to want him to.

What was that line about "you can't be a hero"...sounds like Rudy feels Dexter is rejecting his "true path"

When I first saw this show (to tie in with others earlier mentions) I was totally thinking of Batman/Daredevil...and lets not forget the Punisher... :D

Yeah you are right with Rudy feeling that Dexter is rejecting his path, thats how it is in the book when he can't do what Rudy wants him to do. "You can't be both a hero and a killer" I think was the line.

And the creepy plot in the second one was more of a subplot that is pretty disturbing. It doesn't have anything to do with Rudy really or Dexter going to the dark side. I'm not even sure if they will do it, because it is very disturbing and controversial. If you want to know what it is read the spoiler. It may not happen at all, but I am putting spoiler tags on it anyway.

Around the mid point of the second book, Dexter takes Cody out fishing, its just him and Cody. Now in the book, Cody is portrayed as a quiet kid, only really opening up to his sister and mom, Dexter concludes its probably because of their abusive dad. During the trip Cody catches a fish, and Dexter goes to get a bucket or something, when he turns back to Cody he sees that he has stabbed the fish and its blood and guts are spilling out everywhere on the boat and Cody seems to enjoy smiling and laughing.

Dexter then finds out about Cody killing a dog in their neighborhood. It had been ****ting in their yard and its owner, which was a kid was trying to make it bite Cody and Astor. Dexter asks them about it and Astor says that Cody took care of the dog, that "he likes to do that stuff". Dexter tells them that they cannot tell anyone else about this because no one else would understand and that he would be able to help by saying to Cody what Harry said to Dexter when he was a kid "We have to get you squared away."

Over the course of the remainder of the book Dexter goes periodically tells of how he is sort of excited about "training" and teaching Cody, and "that one day he would take his place as the new Dark Avenger, following in my footsteps carrying the Harry Plan against a new generation of monsters." Like I said, disturbing.

They will definently have to have some balls to do that. But then again it is Showtime, not like its NBC or regular cable. But I am hoping they do go ahed and do it, it would add something else entirely to the series.

^^Whoa!!

Disturbing, but cool...man THAT would be something.

Funny thing is, I would almost feel kinda safe if there was a real Dexter, you know? I mean he's taking out the trash, keeping them away from decent folks like us. It's really a deep show philosophically speaking...

In all likely hood there probably are people like that out there. Maybe not exactly the same, but I wouldn't doubt it. Thing is, he isn't doing it for us, he is doing it for himself. We are just the unknowing beneficieraries of it. Dexter could care less about everyone else because, well, he is is incapable of caring. Thats the part of Dexter from the book that they haven't really gone into too much in the series. When Deb was kidnapped in the book, it seemed like he almost didn't mind at all, the only thing that made him want to save her was because Harry would want him too and, for reasons Dexter can't figure out, that Deb cared for him, yet in the show he is frantic when he finds out she is missing. And even when he does find her, he still has second thoughts once he finds out the truth. I like both, but in the books he is darker, more like a real life uncaring monster that you root for somehow.

I'm curious to see what happens in the last episode.

How it ends, will make or break the series for me.

Either Doakes or LaGuerta has to die. In the first book, it's LaGuerta, and Doakes is apparently keeping a closer eye on Dexter in the second book. With LaGuerta being demoted, I'm wondering if they're setting her up to get whacked, like in the first book.

I think it works in the series for him to show concern. The series has already had a few episodes where it appeared Dexter was beginning to open up emotionally. Especially making love to Rita. I think the nature of novels lends itself to presenting a character like Dexter the way the first book did. The series does need to have him grow somewhat.

I love the show and loved last nights episode. For some reason, I can't rewatch the 10th and 11th episodes, they aren't there. Anyone else have this problem? I bought the first book, gonna start reading it today. So, Cody may become a serial killer like Dexter as well? Without reading the book, I had a felling that Rudy would be the Ice Truck Killer. That was in the second episode he was in, before they even showed him in the cooler. Dexter seems to care, but I don't think he realizes it yet. I'm hoping that in the series and or books, there comes a point where Dexter wants to stop, but can't. He knows he is doing what Harry thinks is a good thing, but he wants no more of it. That would be an interesting take, say for season 3 if they have one. By the way, does the book mention how many slides Dexter has in his little box? It looks like 30 or more to me, which considering his age, hes been doing this for almost ten years, would make sense.

Man, last night's episode was something else. My wife was pissed that she has to wait until next week to see how it all ends. LOL! I'm looking forward to seeing it. So much subtext was laid out last night that I'm still digesting all of it.

Last night's episode was awesome. This is easily the best new show of the year.

I agree with KenK...the development for the show feels appropriate (of course I havn't read the book. In the series it almost seems as if there is that underlying desire to help people (albeit instilled by Harry) that make him likable.

But regardless of all that, great f-ing show!! :woot:

Where can I get previews to the next episode?

So I'm the only one that can't rewatch last nights episode and the one before it? I don't know whats wrong with my digital cable. The 2 epis are still not there.
