I'm going to try to read the books, which one is the first one?

How it ends, will make or break the series for me.
In all likely hood there probably are people like that out there. Maybe not exactly the same, but I wouldn't doubt it. Thing is, he isn't doing it for us, he is doing it for himself. We are just the unknowing beneficieraries of it. Dexter could care less about everyone else because, well, he is is incapable of caring. Thats the part of Dexter from the book that they haven't really gone into too much in the series. When Deb was kidnapped in the book, it seemed like he almost didn't mind at all, the only thing that made him want to save her was because Harry would want him too and, for reasons Dexter can't figure out, that Deb cared for him, yet in the show he is frantic when he finds out she is missing. And even when he does find her, he still has second thoughts once he finds out the truth. I like both, but in the books he is darker, more like a real life uncaring monster that you root for somehow.
