Horror Dexter - Part 6

I guess I’m in the minority but exploring more of Dexter’s past is something I always wanted. I was disappointed when they stopped the flashbacks after season 2 even though we got a tiny bit more during the later years of the series and I really enjoyed the Dexter: Early Cut shorts that Showtime did for the show. I didn’t know if I wanted a prequel series but here we are and for me I’m glad we’re getting it.

True, the idea of exploring his past is interesting but having the younger versions of all the characters we know from the original series feels extremely gimmicky.

I agree but it’s not like LaGuerta, Batista and Masuka were new recruits when the main series started these were people who been with Miami Metro for years so seeing they’re younger selves as Dexter is just joining is believable. Plus they are even saving Doakes for a potential future season so it all makes sense too me really.

I do think the casting will make or break this. The original series had a fantastic cast overall which helped move some weaker plot lines along. I enjoyed it better than the first book which didn't have the full police cast rounding it out.

Yes I know but they could've shown some other parts of his life if they wanted to.

Just finished the first episode and I thought this was a great first start to this prequel series. It was cool seeing the events that lead up to Dexters first kill and the act itself in more detail than that first flashback from season one of the OG series. I can already tell that Harry is going to break my heart and that even though he loves Dexter so much and that flashback revel showed why he’s so devoted to him but that it was Dexter that ultimately killed him.

I know we already know that but this series will allow us to know Harry even more and eventually see the event of him walking in on Dexter and how that was the final nail in the coffin for him. I kinda felt that way in the original series but Harry will most likely go down as the most tragic character in this franchise. Anyway my rant about Harry is over but yeah very good start to the series and glad Deb and Muska were pretty much the same from the jump lol.

Looking forward to the prequel and more Dexter, such a fun world even the poor season had some fun parts.

If all goes well, Phillips — who also explainedwhy he and Hall decided to bring Dexter back to life after that fateful New Blood finale — says he plans for both Original Sin and the forthcoming Resurrection to run for multiple seasons. “The buzz is very good and I’m hopeful,” he said.

Multiple seasons?

Hey, if the show does well, then good, but at what point does Original Sin potentially run into the flashbacks we got of early Dexter in the original series? Not that it's a problem since, hey, they could just say any changes or differences, if they happen, are just retcons.

The opener for Original Sin was decent. I do agree there could be continuity problems if it runs too many seasons do we'll see how they handle it. Resurrection looks decent. Hope they don't screw it up.

Speaking of the diehard fans that know Dexter’s mythology so well, they will know that his father Harry is not long for this world. He has a heart attack in the premiere, and he recovers. But canonically, he dies pretty soon after Dexter joins Miami Metro. How are you going to play with expectations to keep even those fans guessing?

We talked with Christian about this a lot. When you see the whole season, all 10 episodes, it will have only taken place over two or three weeks. We can keep doing that until it is time to say goodbye to Harry, but we plan on keeping Christian and Harry around for a long time. It was the same thing with “New Blood.” It took place from just before Christmas to just after Christmas.

Well that explains how they’ll handle the time frame of Harry’s death at least.
