The Dark Knight Did anyone feel a J. Depp/Jack Sparrow vibe from joker?

No...

No...

No..

No...

and No.

Clearly Heath got into a vibe that transcends "good actor" he really FOUND the character. So no matter WHAT actor you get; it's going to be VERY rare and improbable to see an actor approach this the same way.

Either Johnny Depp is very overrated.

I agree with that but not with Johnny Depp overrated statement, the man has talent he's up there with Bale, Oldman, Nesson, and Ledger.

I made a comment about this months before the film was released.

The only essential thing Sparrow and the Joker have in common, IMO, is that they're these two scum-bags that are charismatic, quotable, likeable and steal the show whenever they're on camera. That's the vibe they have about them.

There was this entire sub-division of fan and culture that was created solely for the reason of praising Jack Sparrow as a character.

I feel the exact same thing happening with Heath's Joker.

I knew, given the hints of what Heath was doing, that he was going to become a character in the vein of Jack as far as popularity goes.

With the creation of this thread, I was right.

you have a point there. well said.

I love Johnny Depp... hes a tremendous actor!

I think Ledger and him were on the same wavelength in terms of talents...

but NO... to begin with, the basic foundations of the characters are to different to compare!

I dont understand all the Depp love, I could count on one hand the decent films he's been good in and yet some of you act like he's Brando or somethin. I used to quite like watching Depp gurning away and having a good time on screen but all the unecessary worshipping is making me really hate the guy and its not his fault. Depp for Joker is something that Joe public would suggest, they'd love it and laugh their damn asses off as Mr J escapes yet again!! Yay that loveable rogue

They are really only similar in one way: both actors got lost in the intricacies of their characters and their mannerisms.

Each role was equally hard to pull off. Depp -- at least in the first Pirates -- and Ledger deserve a lot for what they brought to these roles.

The only similarities I see is the fact that both characters were radically different then any movie characters seen before. Depp is a good enough actor he could probably imitate Mr. Ledger's performance fairly well or at the very least come up with something new and equally interesting, but for respect and continuity's sake I'd rather not see it done.

To be honest, I still think Oldman is the best actor in the series by a fairly large margin and my favorite parts in the movie were the few moments he had with Ledger. If Oldman were younger and not already Gordan, he would have been my pick for Joker.

Equally hard to pull off? So you think Heaths joker is on par with a dodgy Keith Richards impression. People will always laugh at the drunk guy, its the sole reason those movies were successful.

just jokin, I apologise.....see what ya made me do!

depps a great actor and everybody here knows he could pull off a good joker, deep down anyway. i think he would definitely consider it since he took over for heath on his last movie.

Fail. I'm super cereal. All due respect to Captain 21 Jump Street, but I don't think the guy could remotely touch this new version of the Joker. Fact is, I'm relatively certain that nobody could. Mr. Ledger went and created something so perversely unique, that it would be a true mission impossible for any actor to fill the heel of the shoe. Much less, the entire thing.

As for the comparison of Sparrow/Joker? Nay. Nay, I say.
Sparrow=Rum swilling drunk who staggers around in very breezy movements.
Joker=Twitchy serial-killing clown who lawlz a lot and shanks people. <-- Win.

The only real similarity? They're both masters of manipulation and leaps ahead of their foes as far as intelligence goes. Even if they hide it very, very well.

I dont in anyway consider Johnny Depp to be a great actor. I havent seen anything in which he was great. He's entertaining and all but great is a strong word. He does a mean Hunter impression I'll give him that but lets face it - Del Toro was the star of that show.

Christ, it's really amazing how Ledger is now unmatchable in many people's eyes. I remember the time when no one was even confident in the guy, or at best, had good faith that he could pull it off based on a few noteworthy roles.

Depp has amassed quite a filmography in his career, and is one of the few actors in this generation that can actually promise to deliver a performance that isn't "Johnny Depp as ______". And less we forget, Depp created a cinematic star that the mainstream has fallen in love with, from a pretty generic "goof" character as written in the script. I don't care if you like it or not, but to deliver a performance that truly resonates with your audience and has become part of modern pop culture is a very admirable accomplishment.

I suggest people look at the roles Depp has done prior to TDK, and compare it to Ledger during the same time. How one can conclude that Depp would not be able to attain the same great bar Ledger did, is baffling to me. Both are considered great actors now, but Depp has more notches under his belt.

The disrespect in some of these posts is nauseating. :down

THANK YOU!

There are better actors than Ledger... he will always be topped, as awell as the joker...

I love Ledger... but get off the bandwagon and respect other actors in the process...

They've done alot more than you give them credit for.

Just cause Johnny's not our current Joker...

I don't think it's because people don't think Depp could do just as good as a job, it's probably because Ledger did such a fantastic job with the role no one really wants to see anyone else fill his shoes. No matter who the actor is.

Imagine if someone like Depp did step into the role. Could you imagine how many Ledger vs. Depp threads there would be around here? Lol...scary.
