I did not care for the symbiote coming to earth via meteor landing directly in a park next to Peter's bike. It was just a bit ridiculus and to coincidental. I would have preferred astronaut John involved with bringing it home with him. Anyone else, your thoughts?

origin? what origin? It just fell out of the sky, right next to parker and thats it.
I've seen more 1950-1960's crap sci-fi B-movies with more plot then that when dealing with something falling from the sky.

I hated the origin. It was one of the most random things in the Spider-Man Trilogy

My beef with it simply falling from the sky is that once its in the apartment it just hangs around from what must be days.

They setup the astronaut JJ's son from the last film.

IE: Take it right from TV show, Space Shuttle misses dropzone and has to land in NYC. (This could have replaced Crane Action sequence, with having to rescue Gwen still as a plot element, same with rival brock and such)

I agree.

Totally random and out of place. All Spider villains have been men of science gone wrong, or some experiment, but this was just some meteor fell, barely making any noise.

The thing is bouncing around inside test tubes and Doc Conners doesn't think he should alert someone?

I mean, the original Blob movie from the 50s had the EXACT same beginning, but I think they did it better.

It could have been a perfect setup. You already had the astronaut in the movie. How could you not use that? It would have worked much better. Jamason's son being saved by spiderman or Jamason blaming Spiderman for the accident. Missed opportunity right there.

I hated the origin! Very conincidendal. And hey a new organism comes to earth, I'll just hitch a ride on a bike, somehow make my way from the bike to the correct persons room, hide out for a few days just to get my bearings then attach myself to a host. If this thing needed a host to survive, I thought it might you know be in a hurry.

I thought this was the worst part of the film, it came out of nowhere, nobody heard it, and no mention of it afterwards.

Exactly!

If there was some news blurb later about a bizarre meteor shower over NYC, that would have been SOMETHING.

Might as well have crawled out of JJJ's ass.

I agree with you guys it wasn't much of a origin story but was the original symbiote story in the comics that great? Spidey thought into a machine and a new costume just appeared. You know now that I typed that out it is better than a "magical" comet that produced no sound landing right next to his bike. :woot:

Nibune-My beef with it simply falling from the sky is that once its in the apartment it just hangs around from what must be days

No kidding what the hell was it doing? It seemed pretty active then just decided to sit there for 2 days?

Ya know something...wouldn't the meteor have triggered his Spider sense?
His spider sense did not seem to work twice, for the meteor and for Harry.

thats because his spider sense doesn't work on the alien symboite... yeah that's something that was cut in the film in the original 156 minute print. He comes to realize that... The symboite obviously transfers knowledge too... Some other person on the board was confused about that, but that is why Eddie doesn't need to train and how he knows thigns like "tiger" etc.

But as far as the meteor is concerned.... I liked the idea. It was a nice throwbacks to the 50's and 60's scifi films. I don't think everyone will appreciate it, but Sam and Ivan love to make those kind of throwbacks. It's obvious with Army of Darkness and the Jason and Argonauts sequences (not to mention all the Three Stooges stuff and much more).

The meteor scene was what it was... It was a nice cliche and homage to films of another time.

It also helped with Sony. I mean the film was 156 cut to 139ish (and the person who suffered the most was Sandman with cuts). If they had created a more involved plot like that of the cartoon show involving JJ's son John... I mean the groundwork was laid, but part of that was just to throw people off on the villians. It would have also required additional story to weigh this thing down. It was simply an easy solution. Plus its true in nature to the comics, and its not as laughablly bad as the original method from the comics where he got the suit... I mean you get the idea.

We'd be complaining no matter how they did it. If they did the whole John side we would have been wondering why so much of the story was being wasted on JJ and his family again.

They Should've used the symbiote origin from USM. That way we could've had some closure to what happened to Petes Parents. Plus combine the Brock Origin from the animated series. This really should've been 2 movies. Sandman should of been the main villain of this movie.Topher Grace was excellent as Eddie. He had such charisma and I wanted to see more of that.......As the main villain in another Spider-Man movie.

Why not homage something that makes sense?

This is like if Nolan homaged bat shark repellent in TDK. Please don't take that idea from me Nolan.

The origin is not the best but I think this is the best way Sam and co. can do. If there's a Spidey-saving-John Jameson-from-a-space-ship scene and he got the symbiote there, people will also complain that they cram too much thing in a movie. This scene will probably used up 15 minutes.

I WAS REALLY WANTING THE MOVIE TO BE 12 HOURS LONG SO THEY COULD SHOW THE ENTIRE SECRET WARS SAGA LEADING INTO THE DISCOVERY OF THE SYMBIOTE'S ORIGIN! THAT WOULD BE TOTALLY KILLER AND RAD D00D!

Yeah... thats right! Sarcasam! I hate half of the people on this board right now. Eveything gets so stupid on here after a movie comes out. Every "Joe Nobody" n00b gets on here and states his/her crappy opinion and rips apart a great movie just for the **** of it!

THE MOVIE WAS JAM-PACKED WITH STORY! BRINGING THE ALIEN TO EARTH VIA METEOR WAS THE FASTEST AND BEST WAY TO SAVE TIME WITHOUT LOSING ANY CREDIBILITY. Jesus! Sorry John Jameson wasn't a major player... I think some of you idots would have loved to see MAN-Wolf instead of Venom in this flick!

That TAS arc with KingPin and Rhino/Shocker was the sh:t... Brock hitting on Aunt May/MJ and sh:t... that was better than the film probably

TAS has always been better than the films.

You know what I hated? That the symbiote turned Parker into a f***ing gay emo-boy. Come on, black floppy hair, eyeliner. Tobey looked like a f***ing My Chemical Romance reject in this flick.
What else p***ed me off was whenever Brock/Venom spoke it was always "I" or "Me". Never "We" or "Our". Just a small thing but enough to tick me off. And the whole randomness of the meteor falling out the sky, pfffft.
Other than that, hey I liked the movie, guess people should just give up on 'true to the comic-book' movies tho'.

Isn't it ironic, you just stated an opinion like every Joe Blow on these boards.

He looked like little nicky

Raimi used Adam Sandler as inspiration?

I think a quick way they could of explained the meteor shower if they had a news report the next day of small fragments of meteor rocks landing accross the world. Maybe even having someone at the Daily Bugle make a huge talk about it with JJ, but JJ wants a spread on Spiderman instead.

Something in that nature...
