Days of Future Past Did anyone prefer "First Class" over "Days of Future Past"?

I didn't.

But I preferred X2 over DOFP.

FC is only a little better than Origins and X3 for me.

No, close thread :funny:

Top 3 for me are DOFP, X2 and Wolverine

I think no but like others I prefer X2 to DOFP but they're close. My order is

X2
DOFP
FC
X1

I like X2 a little bit more than DoFP, but FC over DoFP?

At the time, First Class seemed refreshing, for sure. It was a departure from the usual formula in many aspects.

Vaughn made the women sexy (even if he did put them all in lingerie at some point, lol), he cast guys that were not Hollywood pretty boys (Caleb Landry Jones), it had full-on flying in it (Banshee... flying more than Storm has ever managed to do), and it was a little more colourful and not so cautious.

But the renditions of Beast and Mystique were not that good. Vaughn is a fan of cat-Beast and wanted that version in X3 when he was attached to direct. And it ended up contradicting known elements of the previous films (with regard to when Xavier and Magneto met, how Cerebro was built, etc).

DoFP is a better movie, in my view.

Preferred First Class, X2 and The Wolverine over DOFP.

X2 is good but it has some issues. I watched it again with my other half when it was on TV recently.

Xavier clearly explains to Wolverine why he can't concentrate harder to find Nightcrawler ('if i wanted to kill him, yes') and then Wolverine is later (round the campfire with Magneto) still baffled why Xavier's ability to concentrate on mutants is an issue while he is being held by Stryker. Duh!

And then the whole issue of why Jean leaves the plane at the end. It's never really that clear why it happens. Yes, we've gone over and over it on here and given our theories but it was something raised by a lot of people at the time the movie was released, and was something my other half had a real issue with. 'Because she has to sacrifice herself and become Phoenix' is not a satisfactory answer, lol

They all have problems though, just like any film series. Think it's more about what people are willing to forgive. The whole Mystique/Sentinel connection feels kind of flimsy to start with.

While my main issues with X2 are mostly fan boy gripes mainly regarding Cyclops (like always with this series) ,the directing, editing and scripting were much stronger through out the film compared to DOFP imo. There's more stand out scenes as well.

Even though Magneto raised a stadium in DOFP, I've seen him do stuff like that before. Be it a bridge, submarine etc. There was nothing really new here. It didn't come close to my reaction when he broke out of the prison in X2, which was alot more inventive. Even though lower in scale it was a much better display of threatening power.

That whole last act in DOFP just fell flat for me, and the Sentinels imo sucked. The fact they made them to counter Magneto yet he still ended up radio controlling them all felt lazy. The scene between Mags, Xavier and Shaw in First Class packed more punch. Much more intense. Actually my favorite part of the end in DOFP is the reunion, which I didn't think I would care about at all. Also just didn't care for the majority of future scenes. Old and Young Prof X meeting being the highlight. Loved everything building to the intro credits though.

The thing I really liked about DOFP was seeing Singer getting a better grasp on humor and fun characters. Quicksilver was easily one of the most entertaining characters of the year and stole every scene he was in. I enjoy the flick much more now then I did when I first saw it, but yeah I don't consider it the strongest film in the series.

X2 is certainly a good movie but for me i can never unsee how much wolverine steals the movie and while i have never disliked wolverine its very clear where the films priorities were

first class i remember thinking was great, it felt like it touched upon things we couldn't or didn't touch upon in the other fillms because wolverine was the star of them movies

DOFP was pretty much a mixture of X2 and FC, although i prefered how magneto was written in FC as his motives were dumbed down in DOFP

I like the aesthetic of First Class more. The 1960s Bond set designs were cool and everything just felt more colorful. Henry Jackman's score was pretty great too. I agree with GuestStar about how it touched on things none of the previous movies did and as much as I love Wolverine I'm glad he only made a cameo appearance. So yeah overall I prefer FC to DOFP. Is it the better movie? Eh well that's debatable. I think both FC and DOFP have some cheesy and/or dumb moments, neither one is perfect obviously.

X-men DOFP is my favorite. i thought it had the emotional weight of first class, and it also had the spectacle which I thought first class somewhat lacked. Plus I loved seeing the original cast again(even if it was brief).

IMO, X-Men: Days of Future Past is the best X-Men movie to date!

My favorite movie of 2014 too!

DOFP is a "better movie", but I think First Class is way more entertaining.

I prefer FC, X2 and even X1 to DoFP.

DoFP to me was entertaining, but rather hollow and disposable, which is something I never could accuse X1 of being, despite its faults and dated-ness. It was so ruthlessly plot-driven that whatever character development it had felt mostly rushed and superficial, and by the end of the film I just felt disengaged from the characters I had loved in FC. Quicksilver and -that- sequence was the only genuinely inspired bit, but as brilliant as he was at the end of the day Quicksilver was a fun diversion rather than the heart of the movie. I also didn't care much for the reunion at the end, partly because I don't care for the "and then everyone lived happily through the magic of time travel" writing, and partly because it felt like a big fan-service moment rather than something organic that actually had something to do with the rest of the movie. Plus the movie was full of sloppy/convenient writing, which I can and do forgive - when a film has many other good things to offer. If not it's just more stuff for the gripe pile.

Part of the problem IMO was that unlike, say, X2 which had the solid foundation of X1 and picked up the characters just where it left them last, DoFP had the task of setting up not one but two brand new settings, and the main characters whose personality/agenda/circumstances had changed drastically from when we saw them last. At least with young!Charles there was some kind of attempt at dealing with this, though still not all that well-done IMO, but Mystique and Magneto were so much worse off, and poor Beast could have been replaced with any other muscled mutant and it would have made no difference whatsoever. I'll admit that he looked much better than he did in FC, but that doesn't mean much when the character has stuff all to do.

I agree, I'm tired of Magneto lifting massive things at this point. It worked in FC because lifting that submarine was a big emotional moment and a big step for Erik in getting hold of his powers, but in DoFP it's just Magneto Magnetoing.

We already have like 3 threads about it ?
But yeah, 'DIDN'T READ, HE HE', why not another one.
But if you want...

X2 > DOFP > FC

I agree with this. Especially for Mystique. We really needed to see,IMO, some of what happened to Erik's group post FC ending. Show the audience what those characters went through. Make us care about their loss. It's where an Azazel death and baby Nightcrawler abandonment would have worked wonders for her character.

I am in minority by X1 is the best X men for me .

I didn’t even recognise any of the FC mutants in the shots that Mystique finds in Trask’s office the first time I watched the movie. So for all purposes, on that first viewing all I saw was Mystique getting teary over some random mutants being killed. And even knowing who they were, yeah we never got to see any kind of meaningful connection between them and Raven, so her revenge mission never had much emotional power, for me.

I also think it’s a shame that Erik and Raven now have all this history that we never got to see. We saw the very start of their relationship in FC, but now that entire post-FC period which was so crucial for Raven’s development can only be mentioned in passing.

For me

Dofp
FC
X1
TW
X2
x2 is vastly overrated For me as a film. The movie was completely wolverine centric and ended with a jean sacrifice outta left field like what? It has the same issues with dumbed down power levels as x1. Sure the night crawler seen was amazing but to be honest until FC, x3 had the best action scenes and it's not even close. So it has lil weight to me.

I loved Bacon as Shaw in First Class, it was great to have a new villain. I prefered DOFP though, was great to see Fassbender go full Magneto.

Hated Kevin Bacon with a passion.
