Okay, I know these are the Spirit boards, but I figured if we are examining Frank Miller's film-making craft, this thread would be more suited for these boards.

Personally, I was not a fan of the (FM BMY1) script. It was entertaining enough, but it didn't work for me as Batman. The whole "Repressed memory Bruce Wayne living in 'Alfred jr's junk yard' with the sort of nightmares driving him to slowly piece himself together from sport pad wearing amateur to full on vigilante" was a little too much of a stretch for me.

I know there were more redeeming qualities to it, but it seemed a little too much of a stretch of the imagination after we had gotten BB, which sort of cannibalized the best parts of 'Year One' into a cohesive origin story.

Point being; How much of Will Eisner's Spirit do you think will be present in the script, barring all of the fantastical elements I'm sure Frank Miller will introduce into this movie?

BTW- If that script is off limits, I'm not aware.

Actually, Darren Aronofsky made changes to Miller's Year One script. Miller stated that they couldn't agree on the characters. In an attempt to make Batman more like Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver, Aronofsky made the decision to remove Wayne Manor, the Batcave and Alfred and make Bruce Wayne poor and live with auto mechanics named Big Al (not much about him, originally took in Bruce when he ran away) and Little 'Al (Who is Alfred basically). Yeah.....I'm happy that we got Batman Begins. To be fair, with the exceptions of the changes Aronofsky made, there are some really great Miller parts in it left intact in the script. This would have been an incredibly violent, brutal, undoubtedly R-rated film. Aronofsky said, "It was a hard, R-rated Batman... What I pitched them was Travis Bickle meets The French Connection - a real guy running around fighting crime. No super-powers, no villains, just corruption. For the Batmobile, I had him taking a bus engine and sticking it in a black Lincoln. Real low-tech geek stuff."
