I was just thinking about this. As a kid I never bothered to join any of those fan clubs (Ninja Turtles, etc) but I was wondering if any of you did and what you got out of it.

No.

No, even as a kid I knew they were simply wastes of money

I didn't think of that at all. For some reason I just didn't bother to join any of them. Maybe I was too lazy to fill out the form. :o

I was a member of the Monkees fanclub but we didn't have to pay. However, we went to a Monkees convention and I got to meet them, which was pretty cool

Monkees fan club? I knew you were old...but damn! :wow: :o :oldrazz:

I was in the star wars fan club. And right now I'm in the U2 and Rolling Stones fan clubs.

Hooray for free concert ticket upgrades!

Nope, I was just happy naturally tripping.

burger king kids club lol

actually I wasnt, but the commercals were all over the place when i was a kid.

I joined the "Lego Maniacs" fanclub once. It was either really cheap or free b/c we wouldn't have really had the $$ otherwise. But I remember it being cool because I always got all of these big themed catalogs of Lego exclusives, fan made sets, and ordering info....I enjoyed it

I was in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan club. It was awesome.

I was a fanclub junkie. Just cleaning out my mom’s basement a few weeks ago (tossing my old junk they’ve been storing), I came across my membership cards/certificates from the following…

W.A.M. (Wild Agents of Marvel)
The Archie Fanclub
StarCom
G.I. Joe

That’s all I could find. I think there may have been more. W.A.M. was pretty cool. They sent lots of good stuff before they just vanished.

And nowadays, I've been a member of the Pearl Jam fanclub since the 90's. I guess I've always liked fanclubs.

I was part of the Fox Kid's Club they even sent me a membership card:cmad:

Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine "Fang Club" as a kid.

I was also in a couple of anime clubs during the 1980s, but that was more just to trade bootleg VHS copies by mail.

Ahhh, I remember when I joined and Dew threatened to ban me for calling people Morons.
It warms the heart.

Anyway, I just read my friends Bantha Tracks Newsletters but never joined and clubs 'cause even then the idea of "joining" a "group" repelled me.

Lost Souls, a Clive Barker Fan club. How I miss that group. We'd get monthly zines and had our own little private meeting with Clive during DragonCon. I still have my shirts, they are worn the **** out.

In my younger days, I think it may have been in a few but I've been having mini bouts of dementia so I can't remember what they were. :csad:

Actually I did join Ninja Turtles and the first thing they send you is this kick-ass package with, from what I remember (I have it somewhere): 2 posters, 4 comics, a Ninga turtle bandanna (mine was blue), a BUNCH of stickers, and some coupons for turtle related products, like Turtle pies with the mutant filling.
