Go back and read some original Iron Man comics from the late 60's. Just do it, please.

Iron Man is one of the few Marvel characters that started out basically as an adult when he started his superhero job. The X-Men and Spider-Man were all kids more or less. Eric Bana isn't a spring chicken either, but he was Bruce Banner, who was also in his 30's.
