What are some of the disappointments of the Trilogy?

2 big things for me are the lack of The Living Laser, and the far too infrequent appearances of the Unibeam.

I really wanted to see some more action / mega fights that requried the use of the Unibeam, but other than the Iron Monger fight, Tony never really faced anyone that he needed to use it, and that's disappointing for me. I had held out hope for some generous use of Unibeam in IM3, and my hope went largely unfulfilled.

MOAR UNIBEAM! :woot:

ahem...

IM - Iron Monger (and his cheesy lines)
IM2 - Whiplash (and his terrible mk. 2 armor and anticlimactic death)
IM3 - The Mandarin (and all that he could have been)

I would have liked to see:
More War Machine. Less Iron Patriot.
More alcohol. More unibeams.

-Marvel relying on RDJ to carry the sequels rather than decent screenplays.

-Weak villains

-Over 30 forgettable armors crammed into one film

~The final fight between Iron Man, War Machine, & Whiplash

~Extremis soldiers should have had more of a presence in the movie

~The useage of John Debney's awesome score in IM2.

The debacle that is IM2.

Recasting Rhodey.

Ditching the "Driving With the Top Down" theme in Iron Man 3.

Im going to add another one.

How Tony loses the Arc Reactor in his chest.

After the "terrible privliege" speech that he gives to Banner in "The Avengers" to have it so callously removed at the end of IM3, feels like Tony's speech to Banner was virtually meaningless.

Had he lost it because of his using Extremis (as he did in Iron Man: Armored Adventures) then I would have been alright with that. But just having it removed, for the sake of having it removed, seems to take something away from why he had it in the first place, and the valuable lesson it taught him.

This here, though I did like Rourke and Rockwell. But they did come back strong with Iron Man 3 to wash the bad taste of IM2 out.

Yeah. I haven't commented on this one much since I saw the movie on Thursday. I mean... There were much greater disappointments in the film than this arc reactor removal moment. And I feel like I understand why they did it. It's like having Batman retire at the end of TDKR. I mean... no one actually believes he's done being Batman/Iron Man. We just needed a sense of closure at the end of the film.

As far as the "terrible privilege" line goes, it still stands. Its just that now Tony is no longer reliant on that piece of shrapnel in his chest to tell him he has to be a hero. Now he just "IS" Iron Man. Just like Hulk is "always angry."

Because let me tell you, as close as that shrapnel was to his heart, modern medicine wouldve seen it removed as opposed to electromagnet/car battery from the beginning. Like, instead of holding that press conference he shouldve gone to the hospital. But he became obsessed.

I understand the character arc. It's not my biggest gripe with the series or this specific installment. I personally really want to see the huge hole in his chest. But that's just my morbid side talking.

I wanted to see like a super extremely powerful Unibeam... like in Marvel vs. Capcom but scaled down a bit hahaha. Other than that I think I'm okay with most everything else. I enjoyed Iron Man 2 mostly as well, loved Rourke.

I fully agree with there needing to be MOAR UNIBEAM.

The climax/final battle of Iron Man 1. It was by no means a deal breaker but I think it could have definitely been better. Such a shame, would have made the film pretty much perfect.

The final Whiplash battle was too short.

Iron Man 3.

I wish the villains were more well-known and not some C-list character from the comics.

The over the top comedy that infected the series in IM2 and 3. Only the first movie had the perfect balance of humor after that they erred far too much on the side of slapstick and sketch.

IM1- End battle could have been better, was a bit lackluster to be honest.
IM2- Whiplash wasn't really much of a threat other than his work on the droids, the man himself was pretty weak and got taken out quickly each time.
IM3- [BLACKOUT]The Mandarin twist, Was hoping Rhodes would ditch the IP suit and get some War Machine action. the Arc Reactor removal for me just made Iron Man 2 a waste of time really. [/BLACKOUT]

All in all I really do like this trilogy, I think its pretty strong

1. The Mandarin
2. The Mandarin
3. The Mandarin
4. Vanko's under development
5. Final battle between Iron Man, War Machine and Whiplash
6. The blandness of the multiple Iron Man suits in IM3

1. The potential future usage of the Mandarin. I don't mind the twist, but I am upset with the wasted potential of a lasting villain/nemesis.

2. Shying away from the "magic" rings. They could have easily made them work, whether it was magic or tech. We have Thor and aliens established in this universe now, so I don't see the problem.

3. The development of Vanko, and then killing him off. Again, wasted potential.

4. Really no use of WM in IM3. Rhodey continuously feels like he gets the shaft in these films when it comes to armoring up. The final fight in IM2 was fine, but I was expecting the same if not more butt kicking from him this time around.

5. Lack of specific armor usage for special situations. It was great that we had 42 suits, but I would have liked to see them used for what they were designed for at some point, even if it was in a news clip or something. We could have had Tony in the Underwater armor in the Avengers installing the Stark Tower arc, stealth suits for spying, or seen a brief glimpse of Tony helping rescue people with the Red Snapper; something along those lines.

6. Lack of rock in IM3. A small complaint, but we're so used to it with Tony in the previous films, and now nothing here.

The series has been fine otherwise for me.

Iron Man 2: I wish that it had an actual story with a sense of rising stakes and tension. Most of all I wish that Vanko, so well cast and interesting, was not was a wasted bore. Same with the idea of international escalation which is an intriguing idea raised in the Congressional scene and then dropped.

Iron Man 3: I only wish that Tony's arc of "giving up the armor" didn't feel so tacked on. In many ways, he actually is given the ending at the last minute that Nolan gave Bruce Wayne in the Dark Knight Rises. But it feels arbitrary and needlessly done to give a sense of closure to Tony Stark's storyline, as RDJ may not come back. It needed more.

Otherwise, I am fine with this relatively light comedic trilogy of films.

- Underdevolping/mishandling the villains (Did a good job with Stane, dropped the ball on Vanko, Justin Hammer, & the Mandarin)

- Omitting the alcholism
