US troops 'murdered Afghan civilians and kept body parts as trophies'

A group of US soldiers murdered a number of Afghan civilians and took body parts as trophies, documents released by military officials allege.
Other soldiers were accused of stabbing an Afghan corpse, taking or possessing photographs of casualties and beating other men in an effort to keep them from talking to investigators.

Soldier's father: Army was warned of murder plot

The father of a U.S. soldier serving in Afghanistan says he tried nearly a half dozen times to pass an urgent message from his son to the Army: Troops in his unit had murdered an Afghan civilian, planned more killings and threatened him to keep quiet about it.

That's just disturbing...

Soldiers accused of war crimes blame superiors

"Morlock claimed Gibbs - the highest ranking soldier accused - planned "scenarios" during which they could kill civilians. For example, Morlock said, if they came across someone in a village that had previously been flagged as having Taliban influence, they could throw a grenade at the civilian and claim they had been responding to a threat. Morlock said: "He (Gibbs) just really doesn’t have any problems with ....killing these people. And so we identify a guy, Gibbs makes a comment, like, you know, you guys wanna wax this guy or what?"

The blackmarket trade of goods (including weapons and drugs) is a staple of the nomads and smugglers that cross those two countries. There's a lot of money to be made and border guards are easily bribed.

Again, this is just one of many reasons they can stir up to attack Iran soon.

So what... they've been supplying insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan for years, an obvious act of war since they have used on Allied troops, but no one is ever going to do anything about it except condemn it at most. Only a direct attack will cause an sort of change.

So what!?!?! It's 19 freaking TONS of bombs 8wid.

Petraeus Says NATO Allowed Taliban Official To Kabul

The commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, U.S. General David Petraeus, has said NATO-led forces have facilitated the passage of a senior Taliban commander to Kabul to hold talks with the Afghan government. Earlier, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Washington would do "whatever it takes" to support reconciliation discussions with the Taliban. This year has been the deadliest for international troops in the nine-year Afghan conflict, with at least 40 troops from the NATO-led coalition killed this month alone.

He's saying that it has no practical significance. We've known about that **** for years. If it were going to be an issue, it would have been by now.

Yeah, this is only one time, there have been hundreds of these kinds of incidents since the Iraq invasion.

Has anyone else heard about NATO giving full control back to the Afghan government by 2014?

Yeah, we'll see how that goes. Karzai's government is in shambles after the election fraud /MP disbarment announcements this week.

I'm surprised that no one has commented on President Obama's surprise visit to Afghanistan today.

So Afghanistan is going to pot? My girlfriend's brother is over there, and he says it's worse now than it ever was before. He doesn't have good things to say about the US military there either, unfortunately. Apparently he was nearly fired on. It's a bad place to be, dwindling away in the desert with the whole country against you. The poor kids that were shipped to Afghanistan - what a waste.

We need to be out of there......let them take care of themselves, they do not appreciate the help they have, so NATO should move on out ASAP, and let them appreciate their new found freedom, as they let go back to the poppy growers which is probably where Karzai's loyalty lies anyway.

Indian Petroleum Minister Murli Deora, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Turkmen President Gurbanguli Berdymukhamedov and Afghan President Hamid Karzai, from left, pose for a photo during a meeting in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Saturday Dec. 11, 2010. The leaders of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Turkmenistan on Saturday agreed to move forward with a complicated and risky plan to build a natural gas pipeline across rugged territory plagued by war and terrorism. The concept of the $7.6 billion gas pipeline project dates back to 1995 but made little progress until India joined the project in 2008. The pipeline, which would terminate in India, would bring huge amounts of gas to underdeveloped regions and could earn impoverished Afghanistan hundreds of millions of dollars in transit fees.

Be ready for terrorists to hit the hell out of that thing in Pakistan.

Hezb-i Islami, an insurgent force led by former prime minister Gulbuddin Hekmatyar (On America's Most Wanted List as " "Specially Designated Global Terrorist") , was said to have announced its full backing for the so-called TAPI pipeline project on December 18 and volunteered to help protect it.
