Whew! Stewart and Colbert march on Washington. Finally something to be excited about from gatherings on the Hill. Be there Oct. 30!

Already booked a room in DC.

Nice. First I will gather people, and then to D.C. we must go.

Stewart claims to be a moderate? LoL

"9/11 was an outside job"
nice! I'd hold that one.

If I didn't have to fly out of town that week I'd probably be there too.

1) Did he say that? That he's a moderate?

2) He's a comedian. This type of thing is his bread and butter.

There is no way I'm missing this.

Both are very funny, but I wouldn't expect this to start some serious political movement. That said, if I could, I would go. As it is, I'll settle for youtubing it.

I would love to go to this...

We may have to issue a smug alert for DC on those dates.........

That was already issued when Glenn Beck held his rally. They can only issue so many a year. :cwink:

Well compared to people on the left saying, "Bush was behind 9/11" and "We invaded Iraq only to benefit Halliburton" and people on the right saying "Obama is a socialist Muslim who wasn't born here" and "He is destroying America and wants to turn us into the Soviet Union/Nazi Germany!"

....

Then yeah. When those are the loudest voices, I would call Stewart a moderate. :)

On the real political spectrum? No. On the Cable News and political media spectrum? Quite possibly.

They're still recovering from when a demogauge marched on the anniversary of "I Have a Dream" and declared to a mostly white conservative crowd that they're taking the Civil Rights movement back.

OK, then we extend the alert from then or are they spaced far enough apart that we let the one expire before we started the next?

And I just got tickets to a Daily Show taping on 10/7. I love this week. :woot:

Stewart only comes off as smug when he gets preachy and jumps up on his pedestal. It is why Colbert is infinitely more talented. Colbert can be both preachy and funny (he can use his humor to preach). Stewart is either one or the other. My interest in this will be firmly based on how he treats it. If it is a comedy concert that rips on both parties, their politicians, the process, Washington insiders, etc and just tears everyone from Sarah Palin to Barack Obama apart, then it should be great. If it is Stewart's attempt to duplicate what Beck did only on the other side, it'll suck.

One of my favorite routines of his was when he ripped people for comparing the people you disagree with to Hitler...and the sketch was from 2005, when Bush was president:

Colbert and Stewart need to get into another "brawl" with Conan O'Brien. Although that might be hard to do since Conan is in Los Angeles now.

Oh, Colbert is definitely more talented. He's the improv actor and Stewart is the comedian. It also allows Colbert to get away with so much more, which is what makes his show so brilliant. I went to a Colbert taping back in June and when he meets with the audience before he's totally different than what you see on TV. And he's still hilarious when he's not in character.

Jon Stewart's brilliance comes from his takedown of the media, that's what I love about his show, and why I've watched it for the last 10 years. I've never "gotten my news" from him, but I will read the news during the day (I don't watch cable news networks), and watch him react to it with the usual amount of disgust that I did when I heard it.

The only thing about The Daily Show I like more are the good guests Stewart always gets. Colbert always gets some nerdy author who's too timid to partake in witty banter. He also needs to make Better Know a District a weekly (biweekly?) thing again.

And Colbert is a terrible interviewer. He interrupts way too much throughout the interview and never lets the guest get a word in half the time.

At the show I went to he had an Apollo astronaut on, which was cool because he was really into the subject so we got to hear a lot more from him. When they brought him out during the commercial break, Stephen stopped his prep stuff he was doing at the desk to get everyone to applaud for him.

Agreed. Stewart is definitely at his best when he takes on the media, and I really hope they aren't spared when he does this. I'm just really hoping Stewart can resist the urge to turn it into a Republican bash-fest/Democrat love-fest. Stewart is at his best when he goes after everyone, no holds barred.

I wouldn't call Stewart a moderate, but he certainly is a man of principle and worthy of respect.

The reason why there have been less Better Know a District segments is because most Republicans refuse to take part and the Democratic leadership in Congress urges its members to not do them because most of them don't get in with the jokes and look stupid or get in with the jokes like "Evil Dan Maffei" which causes some controversy.
