Discussion: Congress, The Senate, The House of Representatives - Part I

Senators who represent a minority of the country should not be allowed to elect lifetime judges who are making decisions for the majority of the country. Two senators from Wyoming should not have the same voting power as two senators from New York or California.

The problem is the same as always: reform the filibuster.

Guess who still wants privacy and reproductive rights to be illegal and no legislation to improve people's lives in other ways:

The terrible two fake Democrats.

Republicans voted to eliminate the filibuster to get their three Supreme Court Justices on the court in 2017.

RepubliQan Senators don't represent the majority of voters even when they have the majority of seats.

The Senate is a worse gerrymander than the House with mostly immutable state lines.

It says a lot when Congress fast tracks a bill to up protection of Justices when facing the anger of the left, but when when abortion clinics faced the terrorism of the right, nothing.

Roe v. Wade: Key vote to protect access to abortion fails in the Senate [47D + 2I for, 50R + 1D against] - CNNPolitics

A key vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act, a Democrat-led bill aimed at preserving access to abortion nationwide, failed in the Senate on Wednesday.

The vote comes as the US Supreme Court may be poised to overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling, as indicated by a leaked draft opinion.

The final tally was 49 to 51 with moderate Democrat, Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, joining with Republicans to vote against the measure and stop it from advancing.

The bill’s failure to advance was expected amid GOP resistance. But the outcome of the vote nevertheless underscores how Democrats are severely limited in what they can achieve with their narrow Senate majority.

At the same time, the party faces enormous pressure to take action on abortion rights amid fears that Roe v. Wade will soon be struck down. Holding the vote provided an opportunity for Democrats to spotlight the issue and criticize Republican resistance to passage of the legislation.

President Joe Biden lashed out at Senate Republicans after the failed Senate vote.

“Once again – as fundamental rights are at risk at the Supreme Court – Senate Republicans have blocked passage of the Women’s Health Protection Act, a bill that affirmatively protects access to reproductive health care,” Biden said in a statement. “This failure to act comes at a time when women’s constitutional rights are under unprecedented attack – and it runs counter to the will of the majority of American people.”

Manchin's vote against wasn't even necessary for the 'no' side since it needed 60 to proceed.

What? Joe Manchin once again sided with Republicans against the will and benefit of the people? I can't believe it. Why is this guy still pretending? And where is Biden's disdain for the sole Democrat to vote against human rights?

It did slightly better than expected with Casey and Sinema allowing it to proceed.

I was surprised Sinema was for it, she's barely any better than Manchin in most cases.

You mean the guy who supported Beer Kavanaugh? Yeah, a real shocker there.

The notion of voting for Dems is starting to seem like indulging a particularly stubborn and foolish child.

Vote harder, guys!

That seems to be the Dem answer for everything.

We will lose our reproductive and privacy rights before we even get to January 2023 so voting in November isn't going to help us with this matter. Only Dems in congress and Biden can stop this at this point. Its entirely in their court at this late hour.

But they can't do anything. They are Democrats.

Yeah, it's definitely better to vote Republicans or not at all because that will make things better.
