Everything Criminal Justice.

Private prisons should be illegal.

People shouldn't be in prison for drug addiction, they should be in (mandated) rehabilitation programs.

There should be a greater focus on rehabilitation than punishment for non-violent offenders, and they should get support programs helping them find housing and gainful employment upon release, to encourage reacclimation to society and lower the rates of recidivism.

Sums it up perfectly.

Well I hope they were armed.....:o

I'm not sure about this. There should definitely be more of an emphasis on training and the training should be broad based. I'm just not sure a university/college degree should be a requirement as it might not really be particularly germane to the training a police officer needs. Not being a police officer, I don't know what ongoing training looks like, but training should never stop.

I think an additional barrier of entry can only help the current policing in this country. Right now for instance, the LAPD is 180 days of academy training and you're a police officer. And the degree requirements should be germane to the type of job officers do, just like any other profession. 4 years of commitment to getting a sociology or criminal justice degree + the academy training likely produces far better cops.

All cops in Finland get a degree while graduating. It's two years of studying and one year of on-the-job training.

I graduated from UC Santa Cruz and am not sure about this. LOL

The real issue is they're not supporting it. It was taking moderate stances and not supporting popular policies that hurt Dems in the House. Not socialism and looters in the street. Scarborough's analysts comment is wrong. There NEEDS to be police reform.

Nah, I side with AOC, in that the Dems didn't get their message out as well. The pandemic screwed with their traditional way of reaching voters, and a lot of them didn't adapt.

Police protect capital above all else. Some pesky "human being" undergoing a "mental health crisis" isn't going to get between them and Walmart Inc's hard-earned 13 dollars.

I understand debates about language and phrasing, but I'm all for defunding the police in their current form and using the bulk of that money for community programs that would help stave poverty, inequality, addiction, mental health crises, etc.

We spend more money on policing than every country except for us & China spends on their entire military.

So Fox News is demonizing the idea of using counselors or social workers to help de-escalate tense situation instead of using police with firearms.

Why talk to someone when it's easier just to shoot them? Just make sure they have the right skin tone.
