What do you even do as a human being with this?
As someone who has been taught to be kind, have empathy, do the right thing, dont lie etc?
Seeing the opposite being validated...i struggle to cope with that as a person.

How can the worst what humanity has to offer, win?
Trump ran on lies and insults, his people ran on that...and they got rewarded for it.
Elon Musk did everything to stifle opposition on twitter, he was a mean bully and all that...and he won?

Im struggling here with my whole being to deal with that fact.

How Lichtman got it so wrong.

Edit: doesn't seem to actually explain how he got it wrong, just stating that he did, which doesn't help.

Needless to say, I think a lot of people will be thinking twice before taking his opinion seriously again.

The sad reality is that in real life, the bad guy often wins. All you can do is ask yourself, is that who you want to be?

I remember almost16 years ago watching Obama get sworn in on a small television in the lunch room of where I worked. I swelled with pride at how far our country had come.

Then I heard two upper middle aged men behind me talking about how they never thought they’d see the day where “this s$&@/ would happen.” I had to turn around because I couldn’t tell what the tone implied. But as I looked at these guys (both of them
Cops) I realized that they were disgusted to see Obama sworn in as president.

That moment of pride and hope had been stained by a reminder that hate still existed. And it has been a seed that has taken root and has been watered and actively tended to by the ugliest parts of our society. It’s a weed that we’ve seen spread into family and friends. Until it effectively choked out all of our hope and unity.

Hate spreads through ignorance and indoctrination. But it grows on a systemic trellis that is designed for that purpose. And we are seeing that trellis fortified before our very eyes through active dismantling of education and the shuttering of programs designed to build up the marginalized.

I guess that, as I ramble here, I reflect that all of the hope that I felt 16 years ago has been replaced with an inerrant concern for the future. This concern is especially weighing on me as I reflect that 16 years ago I had a 2 year old and a newborn, and today they are 16 and 18 and getting ready to transition into adulthood. I don’t like the world that they are about to inherit.

Shame on us all.

The flyover states couldn't lift themselves up, so they're going to drag us all down to their level, unfortunately. :csad:

The only thing that we can really do... move forward. Believe me, I'm not happy about this either. If anything, this election just reminded everyone how this country has a bigger issue than any of our presidential candidates.

However, I was taught that we can't let the worst of humanity make us forget about keeping our own. Contrary to popular belief, Donald Trump will not stay at the top of the mountain forever. His time, like anyone else's, will eventually come to an end.

There's nothing I can say that hasn't been said before. Other than my serious contemplation to make an exception to being teetotal today.

Marginalised groups of people voting that man in because they think he'll save them money somehow. Despite him being a felon, despite his extreme prejudices against every Marginalised group there is, despite us knowing what a Trump presidency looks like

Words do not convey the genuine and profound hopelessness for humanity or the genuine and profound loss of faith in it that I currently feel.

While America being too backward for a woman of colour as president is definitely part of this situation, I truly believe that the bigger issue that has given rise to this situation is economic inequality and insecurity. Too long have the working classes been left behind by late stage capitalism. They don't can't comprehend big forces like capitalism, so they look for someone they can see to blame for their problems. Trump, like Reagan and Nixon before him, gives these disaffected people to blame for their woes.

And among those who are not true believers, like many Latino Americans who voted for Trump despite how he vilified them, they hold their nose and vote for.him because in their very simple worldview, they see economy under Trump good, economy under Biden bad. They don't appreciate that it was poor management of the pandemic under Trump that gave rise to inflation.

Finally, the Democratic party needs to stop pivoting to the middle and letting DINOs like Manchin and Sinema gut their legislative agenda. The economic status quo and the neoliberal economic theory underlying it doesn't work. As a result, they see Democrats' half-measures as a swamp and gravitate towards Trump who promises them big change.

These are the same reasons why Weimar Germany voted in the Nazis in 1933. They held their noses and put up with the bigotry because Hitler has big plans for restoring the economy after the Great Depression and for redressing the wrongs of the Treaty fo Versailles.

Not sure why Kamala didn't lean into this, but she should have repeatedly stated that inflation is a worldwide problem due to the pandemic which is easing now.

Latino Men went from 59% for Biden to 44% for Harris.

And white women only increased slightly for Harris, from 44% to 47%.

Gen Z and Gen X both moved toward Trump. They accounted for half of voters.

You’re giving them too much credit. They don’t give a rat’s touchas about Palestinians or Ukrainians or Puerto Ricans. They care about groceries being cheaper. While that’s a valid concern, they don’t understand that his tariffs won’t fix inflation. They’ll make it worse.
And then they'll blame the Democrats or Joe Biden or something else for why prices keep going up.

Bingo. Because nothing is Trump’s fault. If something happens, it’s a conspiracy. It actually reminds me of a quote from Doctor Doom: “Doom cannot fail. Doom can only be failed.” Fortunately Donald is much less competent than Victor.

None of this has hit me yet. It isn’t real. I’m still hoping that things won’t be as bad as I fear.

I'm not buying that it's mostly inflation which caused this. There is a significant percentage of people who go crazy when they see a white fictional character be played by a minority, that's the populace we are dealing with, many poorly educated people being influenced by social media to get angry.

No doubt about it.

I gotta ask, are the “uncommitted” voters in Michigan happy now? They made their point about being angry at Biden for supporting Israel but do they really think that Donald Trump will get Netanyahu to take it easy on the Palestinians? The whole Middle East is about to blow up.

Palestine is about to be leveled to the ground and the prices of everything is about to go up. But at least the uncommitted voters stayed home or voted for Jill Stein or something. :cmad:
